Oakland took Game 1 of this series Monday night 3-2 in 10 innings, an outcome that gave us a winner with our free MLB pick on the 'under'. What might be in store for Game 2 Tuesday night (10:05 pm ET)?

Tuesday's Betting Odds
As of early Tuesday AM the best line we could find on Oakland and the struggling Jason Hammel was the -122 offered at 5Dimes, while Tampa and newly acquired Drew Smyly could be found getting +117 at BetOnline. And most books listed the total at 7.5 runs.

Monday Re-Hash
Starters Alex Cobb and Jeff Samardzija allowed a combined four runs through 12 2/3 innings Monday night, and the bullpens got the game to extra innings tied at 2-2. The A's then won it on Derek Norris' two-out single in the bottom of the tenth 3-2.

Oakland won as a -135 favorite on Monday's MLB betting line, and the game, to our delight, stayed 'under' its total of seven runs.

A's outfielder Coca Crisp has missed the last week or so with a sore neck, but they hope to have him in the lineup tonight.

Tuesday's Twirlers
Hammel (8-9, 3.87) is 11/21 on quality starts this season, but 0 for four since joining the A's a month ago. Last time out he got bombed by Houston for eight runs in 4 1/3 innings, and over his last four starts he's allowed 18 ER through 17 innings.

On the season, including his 17 starts for the Cubs, Hammel has allowed 114 hits in 126 innings, walked 33 and struck out 116. But Oakland is winless in Hammel's four starts.

While pitching for Baltimore last year Hammel started four times against Tampa, giving up 14 ER and 25 hits through 22 1/3 innings; his O's lost three of those four games.

Smyly (6-9, 3.93) will be making his first start for the Rays, after the trade last week with Detroit. On the season he's 8/18 on quality starts, but only one for his last six. Most recently he gave up four runs and 11 hits in five innings against the White Sox last Thursday, and over his last six outings he's been touched for 20 ER through 32 innings.

Over 105 innings this year Smyly has allowed 111 hits, walked 31 and struck out 89. The Tigers only went 6-12 in Smyly's starts, with the totals leaning toward the 'overs' by a 10-7 margin.

Smyly started once earlier this year for Detroit against Oakland, and got nicked for six runs in five innings – giving up four gopher balls – in a 10-0 Tigers loss back in May.

Free Pick for Tuesday
We won with the 'under' on Monday's game, but things might be a little different Tuesday night. So we'll go with the 'over' 7.5 runs, at the +100 offered at Bookmaker, for our free MLB pick on Game 2.
