Oakland took Game 2 of this series Tuesday night 3-0, putting a damper on our free MLB pick on the 'under'. We look for a better result as the A's shoot for the series sweep Wednesday afternoon (3:35 pm ET).

Wednesday's Betting Lines
Most sportsbooks opened Oakland and Sonny Gray at around -190 over Tampa and Jeremy Hellickson, with a total of seven runs; many shops then bumped the A's about a dime, to the -200 range.

Tuesday Re-Hash
Oakland finally got a decent outing from Jason Hammel, who scattered 11 base-runners through 5 2/3 innings, on its way to a 3-0 victory. The A's won as -125 chalk on Tuesday's MLB betting line, and the game, to our chagrin, stayed 'under' its total of 7.5 runs.

In fact, the first two games of this series have both stayed 'under' the totals, as the teams have combined to score a total of eight runs.

Wednesday's Starters
Gray (12-4, 2.59) is 16/22 on quality starts this season, and running on a string of six in a row. Last time out he held Kansas City to one run through seven innings, and over his last six starts he's allowed just five ER through 42 innings.

On the season Gray has allowed 118 hits through 146 innings, walked 49 and struck out 128. Oakland is 15-7 in Gray's starts, with the totals leaning toward the 'unders' by an 11-9 margin.

In two career starts against Tampa Gray has allowed just one run and 10 hits through 14 2/3 innings.

Hellickson (0-1, 3.29), after missing the first three months of this season recovering from elbow surgery, is 0/3 on quality starts since his return, because he hasn't been able to pitch six full innings. Last Friday he gave up four runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Angels, while just before that he held Boston scoreless through 4 2/3 innings.

So through his first three starts of this season Hellickson has allowed five runs through 13 2/3 innings, walked five and struck out 11. Tampa is 2-1 in Hellickson's starts.

Hellickson started once last year against the A's, tossing seven innings of shutout ball in a 1-0 Rays victory.

Free Pick for Wednesday
We're 1-1 on our free MLB picks with the 'unders' in this series so far, and with Tampa having trouble scoring – it's been held to three or fewer runs in seven of its last 10 games -  we like the 'under' again for today.
