With the Royals gaining momentum on the second half of the season, they visit Fenway to take on the Red Sox. Our expert capper analyzes this clash and provides his free MLB pick.

Kansas City Royals
Ian Kennedy gets the start for Kansas City and comes in with a 3.58 ERA and 1.15 whip while the Royals have won his last three starts. Kennedy has been arguably the hottest pitcher in baseball over his last five starts allowing an amazing three total earned runs in over 35 innings of work not allowing a run in two starts and allowing just one run in his other three. He has been doing it both at home and on the road so I think this provides tremendous value in backing him today. As well, in his only opportunity to face Boston this season, he was solid allowing two earned runs in just under six innings of work so I completely expect him to come in with some confidence and pitch a good ballgame.

Offensively I have noted over the past couple weeks the disparity between Kansas City hitting at home versus on the road. That being said over their last 10 games they are averaging over five runs per game and I expect they will be able to score tonight against a pitcher who has been shaky at times over his last 10 starts.

Boston Red Sox
Stephen Wright takes the mound for Boston and comes in with a 3.01 ERA and 1.19 whip but is coming off of the 15 days DL. In his only start in August he was excellent allowing zero earned runs off of three hits in a complete game shutout versus the Los Angeles Dodgers in Los Angeles. However, in his two starts prior to that, he gave up 11 earned runs off of 19 hits in just over nine innings of work. What makes them the favorite today I believe is twofold in that Boston has won six out of the last seven times he has started on the mound and simply the fact they are the best hitting team in baseball. In his only start versus Kansas City this season he did pitch decently well allowing three earned runs off of five hits in eight innings.

Offensively I could go on for a while about how good this Boston team is and it doesn't matter whether they're on the road or at home. They rank first in the league in the most important offensive categories including runs per game, batting average, and OPS. However, they are coming into this game on a two-game losing streak and have only scored six total earned runs in their last three games. Boston should be the favorite but I believe there is good value in taking the live road dog.

MLB odds have naturally made the Kansas City Royals the road underdog in this spot, but it is a pretty big number in my opinion. For my MLB pick, I will take Kansas City in the Moneyline. Although it makes sense for Boston to be the favorite I think this is great value on backing the hottest team in baseball.
