With playoffs in the balance, we head to Baltimore where the Orioles take on the hard hitting Boston Red Sox. The first three games of this series have seen some relatively low totals but with two veterans on the hill today we will see a fourth?

Boston Red Sox
David Price gets the start for the Red Sox and comes in with a 3.91 ERA and 1.18 whip while holding Baltimore to just two earned runs in eight innings in Boston two weeks ago. Equally good was his outing last time in Baltimore where he allowed just one earned a run in just six innings of work back in mid-August. On those numbers alone it looks like MLB odds makers have stretched this total a bit. However, this will be the fifth time the Orioles have seen him this season and they have hit at least one home run each game against him so don't look for him to not get touched up some. As well, in the past three seasons, the Orioles are hitting a lofty .311 against him in eight appearances. Offensively the Red Sox got a bit lucky yesterday by capitalizing on an error but they have been getting quality at-bats for the most part this series and remain the best hitting team in baseball.

Baltimore Orioles
Chris Tillman gets the start and comes in with a 3.72 ERA and 1.24 whip while holding the Red Sox to just one earned run in seven innings the one time facing them this season. Unlike Price over the past three seasons he has actually pitched well against the Red Sox with a 2.83 ERA over 13 starts in that time span. However, the Red Sox do have 75 hits against him in 76 innings pitched so look for them to have some good at-bats today and be able to produce at least a few runs. Offensively the Orioles have been stifled the past three games but this is a good spot for them to break out against a pitcher in which they have a high batting average. As well, this is a team that has been extremely good production wise at home averaging 4.75 runs per game which rank them fifth in the American League.

Boston Red Sox vs Baltimore Orioles
Oddsmakers have come out with a total of 8.5 across the board with mostly higher juice on the over. For my MLB pick, I am going to back over the total of 8.5 and the best odds I can find which right now is at Pinnacle Sports. The two veterans will have their struggles today in Baltimore.
