World champion Cubs face knuckleballer Steven Wright and the slumping Red Sox for Game 2 of Interleague series. With Wright getting rocked in his last outing and Chicago seeing the ball well on this Road trip, is backing the visitors the best pick here in Boston?

Chicago Cubs vs. Boston Red Sox

RHP John Lackey (1-3, 4.88 ERA) and the world champion Cubs face knuckleballer Steven Wright (1-2, 8.66 ERA) and Red Sox at Fenway Park on Saturday in Game 2 of this Interleague series. Sportsbooks have the Cubs -120 favorites—up from -109—with the total 9½ after opening at 9 while the run line sees Chicago -1½. In Game 1 on Friday night, Jake Arrieta dueled Drew Pomeranz with the Cubs scheduled to send Kyle Hendricks to the bump against the Red Sox Eduardo Rodríguez in Game 3 on Sunday (ESPN, 8 p.m. ET).

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs are coming together, especially at the plate where Chicago had scored an average of 7.14 rpg in its L7 games (5-2) heading into Friday’s series opener in Beantown. In Game 1 on Friday, Cubs Manager Joe Maddon had a starting lineup of: DH Schwarber, 3B Bryant, 1B Rizzo, LF Zobrist, SS Russell, C Contreras, RF Heyward, 2B Báez and CF Almora. with Jake Arrieta starting.

Chicago was 8-2 L10 Interleague games into Friday, 19-7 L26 Interleague vs RHP and 21-8 L29 Interleague overall. The Over is 5-0 L5 Lackey Road Starts, 8-1 L9 Cubs Grass with the Under 10-4 L14 Cubs IL into Game 1.

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox and manager John Farrell have had a rough go of late, L5-6 heading into the series opener here with their AL East rivals, the Orioles, and Yankees winning two each versus Boston with the Carmines scoring an anemic 9 Runs in those 5 games. In Game 1 Friday, Farrell had a starting lineup of: SS Bogaerts, LF Benintendi, RF Betts, DH Ramirez, 1B Moreland, 2B Pedroia, CF Bradley Jr. and 3B Hernández with Drew Pomeranz getting the pill.

Boston—which added Chase d’Arnaud and Ben Taylor to its 25-man Roster—is impressive 154-75 L229 Interleague games, 118-50 L168 Interleague vs. RHP and 38-14 L52 home interleague games but 1-5 L6 Game 2’s of a series and 0-4 in Wright’s L4 Game 2 Starts. The Under is 26-9-3 L38 Red Sox overall and 4-0 L4 Saturdays while the Over is 7-0-1 L8 Wright Home Starts vs. teams with Winning Records and 4-0 his L4 IL Starts.

Boston Weather, Series Trends

TWC forecast for Boston Saturday calls for Cloudy Skies, a Low of 49° with 10-20 mph NW Winds. Cubs hurler Lackey—who once played for Boston—is 31-23 lifetime at Fenway with a 4.45 ERA, so with that and Wright’s knuckler, there could be Runs scored, weather permitting. Wright was knocked around for 4 Runs on 9 Hits in 3.1 IP in his last outing against the Orioles.

Heading into Friday, Chicago was 4-1 L5 at Boston with the Under 5-2 L7 meetings between these two historic franchises who literally play in living MLB museums. Here, although the Cubs are 0-5 L5 Lackey starts, Chicago should bang the ball off and over the Green Monster a bunch in an entertaining and high-scoring affair, making the productive Cubs (67-33 L101 Grass) the MLB Pick vs. the now offensively challenged Red Sox (.202 BA L9, 1.9 rpg).
