For our total play of the day we are heading to Los Angeles when the San Francisco Giants take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Today, we get a battle of two pretty inexperienced (despite their success so far this year) pitchers so I am going to back over the total in this spot.
You got to love a good rivalry game, and the Giants and Dodgers is one of the best rivalries in baseball. I thought the total for this game was a little surprising. MLB odds makers have made the total for this game 7, and at most sportsbooks you can find it at regular juice of -110. BetOnline is one of those sportsbooks that got the line out early. With both these pitchers having a pretty good season it does make a little bit of sense. But neither of them is tremendously experienced, and both of them have been hit hard on occasion.
Chris Heston takes the hill for the Giants and comes in with a 3.76 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. He is having a great season so far and just threw a no-hitter two games ago. He has gotten knocked around a few times this season, on five occasions out of his 13 starts he allowed five or more runs. Unfortunately for him, two of those games were in Colorado, but still. For the Dodgers Mike Bolsinger takes the mound with a 2.25 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. At home he has been really solid this year, but he does not go deep into ballgames. In only two out of his eight starts has he gone past six innings. He is given up eight runs in his last 16 innings pitched, and the Giants have already seen him once this year getting five hits off him in five innings but only one earned run.
The Dodgers rank 11th in the league in runs per game and the Giants 20th. But offensively they're both solid at the plate. Recently, the Giants and the Dodgers have been in a little bit of a funk but I look for them to break out today. The Dodgers rank first in the league in on base percentage at .334 and the Giants are not far behind them ranked fifth at .327. Also, the Giants rank 5th in batting average at .267 and the Dodgers 12th at .257. The Giants also rank 4th in the league in hits per game. Although the run production hasn't always been there for these teams, they both have solid hitting lineups.
It makes sense that this total is 7 for this matchup. Both pitchers are having good seasons so far, but both of them are still early in their major league careers. The Giants and the Dodgers both have the kind the lineup that can put up runs and I look for them to do so today, back the over with confidence.
