After getting only three runs on ten hits I am taking the Miami Marlins today on the plus money line against the Phillies. Good value here with the Marlins who should bounce back in this spot and come up with the win.
Pitching break down
Cole Hamels has had a very good major league career. He comes into this game with a career 3.29 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He usual has good control but has struggled a bit this year with 9 walks in 18 innings. He has also had problems this year with the long ball already given up 7 on the year. This explains his low WHIP of 1.17 but high ERA of 5.00. Jarred Cosart has also not been stellar so far this season with a 4.76 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. But like Hamels his career ERA is much better at 3.33 and he comes in with a 1.35 career WHIP. MLB betting odds makers have opened this game making the Phillies around a -120 favorite and the Marlins around +110. Although Hamels is the better pitcher, and bigger name, in my opinion Cosart has the kind of stuff that can keep a weak Phillies offense in check. Both pitchers are looking to bounce back in this game.
You have to score to win
Pretty simple concept and the Phillies are the worst ranked team in runs scored this season. Although they come into this game having won yesterday they did it in unlikely fashion with a couple big home runs, the Marlins out hit them but only managed 3 runs on 10 hits leaving 7 on base. Baseball is the kind of sport in which that happens, teams out hit teams, or can even generally out play the other team and can still lose. Miami leads the Philadelphia this year in most major categories, runs, average, hits per game, slugging, and on base percentage. They are the better team here with a really good pitcher on the mound and should break out of their mini losing streak today. Good value on them so I will back them here on the plus money line with my MLB picks.
