The Dodgers and Cubs will go to the final game of their series in Los Angeles all even after a 12-inning affair on Saturday.  Read on for a Game 3 preview and free MLB pick.

Hanley Ramirez starred for the Dodgers on Saturday, delivering a 12th-inning, 3-run homer to wreck our 'under' play but send Los Angeles fans home happy with a 5-2 triumph over the Chicago Cubs. The LA victory leveled the weekend series, sending the squads to a Sunday battle to decide matters.

Game 3 features a pair of veteran righthanders on the bump at Chavez Ravine, Edwin Jackson and Josh Beckett, and SBR's live MLB odds has yet to post numbers for the 4:10 PM (ET) start. Once they are released, look for Los Angeles to be carrying chalk in the -180 to -190 range with the total around 7.5 or 8.

Beckett In Poor Form Since DL Stint
Jackson has been among the better fades all season, the Cubs losing 15 of his 22 starts for nearly seven units of red ink. The veteran righthander labored in his last assignment this past Tuesday in Chicago, needing 105 pitches to get 12 outs and allowing the Rockies to score three times in four frames. The Cubs eventually won the 16-inning affair to stop a 4-game slide with Jackson in the hill.

A former 6th-round pick by the Dodgers in 2001, Jackson has only faced his old team twice in the last three seasons while wearing four different uniforms in that span. One of those outings was late last August in LA, a 4-0 Dodgers win.

Beckett has struggled in his two starts since returning from the DL for a sore hip. Like Jackson, Beckett burned 105 pitches in his last assignment before being sent to the showers one out into the fifth in Tuesday's series opener vs. the Braves, a game the Dodgers managed to rally for an 8-4 win. He hasn't faced the Cubs since his days with the Marlins in 2005, and his only win over Chicago came in his rookie 2001 season.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick
Home teams have had a big edge when David Rackley calls balls and strikes, winning 15 of his 19 plate assignments with chalk 7-3 among those games. The Houston native now working his fourth big league season, Rackley's totals record is a bit more level at 8-9 O/U, his only dish duty at Dodger Stadium going 'over.'

Some parts of Los Angeles were receiving some rain early Sunday morning, but they were light showers and expected to move out by game time (1 o'clock local). Cloudy skies will be left behind, with the thermometer in the low-to-mid 80s for the matchup and a 7-10 mph SW breeze (out to right).

I really do not like either starting pitcher in this one, but am still hesitant to pull the trigger on the 'over' since either or both is capable of putting together a strong outing. Let's take a shot with the home team on a runline for our free pick.

MLB Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (+120)

Season: 95-96 (-1.60)
