Madison Bumgarner and Zack Greinke have been dominant when taking the mound for the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers respectively in this rivalry, but one pitcher has performed at a higher level with Tuesday night’s home plate umpire.

Closing the Gap
San Francisco moved within 3.5 games of Los Angeles after picking up a 5-2 extra-innings victory as+103 road underdogs Monday night, while pushing up against the betting total of 7.

The Giants are still playing without the services of Michael Morse and Angel Pagan, which is important to consider when making your MLB picks, as they’ve been San Francisco’s most successful hitters against tonight’s opposing starter over the last five campaigns.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is 22-21 as underdogs of +100 to +150 per MLB odds when playing away from AT&T Park.

Holes in the Lineup
Los Angeles has alternated wins and losses over its last four games, while the OVER is on a 8-0-2 run in its last 10 affairs.

The Dodgers are hoping that outfielder Yasiel Puig can get things going offensively at Dodger Stadium, as he’s 4 for 40 at the plate in his last 11 games in front of the home faithful, while first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has managed just four hits in 32 career at-bats versus Tuesday’s opposing starter.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 39-24 as home favorites of -125 to -150, with the OVER going 35-24-4 in that situation.

Bumgarner
Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (18-9, 2.91 ERA) has put together a five-game win streak by compiling a 1.98 ERA—striking out 47 batters and walking just six over that span.

The left-hander is 11-3 with a 2.05 ERA in 17 road games—issuing just 19 free passes and punching out 113 batters in 118.1 combined frames.

Bumgarner has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last nine starts versus the Dodgers.

Greinke
Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke (15-8, 2.76 ERA) has led the club to three consecutive victories, but he didn’t earn a decision in a 8-4 road win over the Chicago Cubs last time out—giving up four runs and nine hits over five innings of work.

The right-hander is 8-2 with a 2.63 ERA in 13 home outings, with opposing hitters batting .222 against him (.271 on the road).

In four efforts versus the Giants in 2014, Greinke has registered a perfect 4-0 record and 1.38 ERA.

Prediction
I’m going to recommend that readers back the Dodgers as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve captured 19 of their last 23 games versus division opponents with Greinke on the hill.
