Take Advantage Of This 'Under' MLB Pick Featuring Two Solid Pitchers In White Sox vs. Rays

Two good pitchers are on the mound and the MLB odds makers have set the total for this White Sox vs. Rays game quite low. However, is it too low for an American League game?

Chicago White Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays (MLB Record: 3-4)
MLB odds makers have set the total for this game at 6.5. For one of my MLB picks I'm going to back under the total and look for both of these pitchers to have a solid outing against two subpar offenses. Although it is an American League game, the total is set low for reason.

Chicago White Sox
Chris Sale comes in with a 2.93 career ERA and 1.07 WHIP with the White Sox hitting .238 as a team which ranks 17th in the major leagues. Chicago had a lot of success in Minnesota sweeping the struggling Twins but they didn't do it by scoring a lot of runs scoring just four, three, and three in those contests. Tonight they will face a very good home pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays and I don't anticipate them to score a lot.

Sale has been good so far this season allowing six earned runs in 14 innings for 3.86 ERA and 1.14 whip. He is however much better than those numbers and can be absolutely lights out at times. I like this situation tonight for him to come out and be really dominant against a Tampa Bay team that is really not that good on the offensive end. I was a little surprised by this number because Sale has not pitched that great against Tampa Bay in the last three seasons with an ERA just over 4.00. However, in that same time span in the last three years when he has had the opportunity to pitch on the turf field he has a 2.60 ERA with batters hitting just .170 against him.

Tampa Bay Rays
Jake Odorizzi gets the start for Tampa Bay and comes in with a career 3.78 ERA and 1.23 whip with the Rays hitting just .216 as a team which ranks 24th in major league baseball. Tampa Bay has not hit the ball very well so far this season ranking in the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. So far they're averaging just three runs per game which ranks 24th in the league, and are only averaging 11.62 total bases which ranks 22nd.

Odorizzi has only faced the White Sox one time in his career back in 2014 where he allowed four runs in just four innings. In his last three seasons he has been stellar at home with a 2.89 ERA and batters hitting just .212 against him. He has not pitched particularly well so far this season allowing five earned runs in just over 11 innings pitched in two games, but those two appearances were against two of the best hitting teams in baseball in the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles. He should pitch with a lot of confidence tonight against a subpar hitting team in the White Sox and I expect him to put up a lot of zeros on the board.

If you're looking for more great totals for tonight, go ahead and grab these two other picks we've got for you in Giants vs. Dodgers, and Blue Jays vs. Red Sox.
