Swinger's 2014 MLB Record (21-23-1, -17.05 units)  *Picks are rated from 1 to 5 units*
I have no desire to recap last week. None. But because I believe that the authenticity and legitimacy of my MLB picks are vital to my own credibility as an MLB handicapper then it's a task I must undertake. I will relive the nightmare that was my 0-3 record when I took the Mets -120 over the Rangers for 2 units, the Brewers +140 over the Dodgers for 3 units and finally the mother of all bad bets when I backed the Houston "Bleepin" Astros -160 in MLB odds for 4 units!  Who the hell gets all giddy about playing the Astros especially when they are laying -160 in juice?!

Well, it all blew up in my face and we dumped almost 12 units back to the man. It's a tough pill to swallow particularly because we spent most of the summer climbing out of an early season hole. Now if I were a scamdicapper this is where I would manufacture a play so big and bold that it had to be worth more than the maximum 5 units in my system. I might call it the 50 Star Pure Platinum Play and if I win, my 17+ units in the hole magically morphs into +22 units and the world is a beautiful place. The paid touts have various names for these plays, I just call it chasing.

Now it's time for us to keep cool and get back some of what we lost. I will live and die by this 1 to 5 unit system and never will I abandon it in order to take a shot and get even in one play. I wouldn't do it in real life and I won't do it here. If we lose there's always tomorrow. The bottom line is money management and staying in the game. Let's go!

Cubs vs. Mets
Betting on bad teams is not a wise idea if you want long term success cashing your MLB picks but someone has to win between these two bottom feeders. My bet is that the Cubs prevail as they have Jake Arrieta toeing the slab today and he will end this two game slide against the Mets.

On the flipside we have Rafael Montero for the Mets who was shelled in his last outing against the Nationals and brings an ERA above six into this contest. It's all about the pitchers here my friends and Arrieta has proven he can get the job done against good teams let alone lousy ones like the Mets.

MLB Pick: Cubs -120 for 3 units at WilliamHill.com.

Astros vs. Red Sox
Play the Red Sox here who have Hurricane Joe Kelly on the hill today. Kelly has compiled a 2.08 ERA since his arrival in Boston and the Red Sox offense seems to be clicking after a season of frustration. They ripped the 'Stros for 10 runs on Saturday and have a good, solid pitcher on the mound today that will shut down a lackluster Houston lineup.

MLB Pick: Red Sox -135 at Bet365.com for 4 units

Blue Jays vs. White Sox
We've got a pair of lousy pitchers in Drew Hutchinson and Scott Carroll who will get hammered again today. The Toronto and Chicago offenses have been swinging the bat freely and that coupled with the ham n' eggers on the hill will equal plenty of fireworks at Cellular Field.  Don't be shy about betting over in your MLB picks today.

MLB Pick: Over 9 (-120) for 4 units at WilliamHill.com.
