Each and every Sunday Swinger looks to bust your bookmaker with his MLB picks so get ready to end your week on a winning note as he reveals his winning selection for Sunday, July 27th.

Swinger's 2014 MLB Record (19-17-1, +3.45 units)  *Picks are rated from 1 to 5 units*
Today is the 21st anniversary of my father's passing, as well as that of former Celtic Reggie Lewis cut down in his prime, and for all those who have lost your dad you know that the old adage "Time heals all wounds" is not exactly accurate. It's more akin to "Time is a marvelous anesthetic," than it is a miraculous healer. So this one is for you, Big Jim and may you continue to rest as peacefully, as you lived so fully.

Last week we did the splits, though one caustic soul snarked in the Players Talk Forum said that I went 1-2 and lost units for the day.  Unfortunately, our dimwitted friend failed to notice that our 5 unit maximum play - which, by the way, won AGAIN - had a 3 unit (- 1 ½ +115) attached to it that clicked when Pittsburgh defeated Colorado 5-3. But alas those eight units were swept away by the Giants getting edged as -130 favorites in MLB odds to the Marlins for 4 units and our big underdog the Texas Rangers +155 dropping a 9-6 decision for 3 units. When the dust settled last Sunday we picked up a measly 0.25 of a unit but it beats the hell out of losing.

So let's cash in our MLB picks as we look to add to our bankroll today by choosing the winner in the Mets/Brewers game at 2:10 EST this afternoon. Onward and upward my intrepid readers!

Mets vs. Brewers
I'm happy the Brew Crew is rolling along, winning four of their last five and holding the best record in the National League at 59-46, because that makes them prime pickin's for the public's ravenous appetite for all things chalk. Let the squares line up one and all because the sharps, or at least this sharp, is riding the Mets and getting paid by the bookmakers to do so.

New York is hoping to emerge from Old Milwaukee with a split of their four-game series. We're betting they will after dropping a 5-2 decision last night. The Mets are trotting rookie hurler Jason deGrom out to the mound and this young gun has been a stone cold killer over his last six appearances compiling a 4-1 record to complement a 1.59 ERA and leads all rookie pitchers with 79 strikeouts. The kid is even batting .280 at the plate!

Opposing him will be another rookie who hasn't fared nearly as well in Jimmy Nelson who takes a 5.06 ERA to the hill.  Nelson has been shuttled between Triple-A Nashville and the majors throughout the season and got bombed by the Cardinals on July 12th. The Redbirds struck him for eight runs over four plus innings en route to a 10-2 victory. However, he did rebound a bit in his last outing by allowing only three runs over six innings in a 4-3 no decision victory over the Reds. Nelson tied a franchise record by hitting three batters in the game.

Here's the deal boys and girls. The Mets are not a terrible team and I dare say the Brewers are not a great team though their record is impressive. They have a +31 run differential which is good but it pales when compared to Oakland which holds a +164 +/- differential.

The Mets can keep pace on solid pitching and that's exactly what they have in Jason deGrom. They are getting a pretty good chunk in MLB odds as well and we love it when the books pay us the vig. The MLB odds are dropping on the Mets as we speak so get them when you can.
