Cardinals and D’Backs conclude their 4-game today. There's been lots of talk about De La Rosa, but I have more faith on Wacha and am backing him tonight as one of my MLB picks.

St. Louis Cardinals (Wacha) (-115) vs. Arizona D’Backs (R. De La Rosa) 9:40 ET
First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 ET.  After the D’Backs clubbed the Cards (12-7) in the opener on Monday, St. Louis has repaid the favor winning the last 2 nights by combined scores of 19-6.

The high-scoring ballpark that is Chase Field in Phoenix has contributed to the offensive onslaught. But, each of these teams is putting up solid offensive numbers. Arizona is 5th in MLB in runs scored with 115 for the season. But, only the Rockies and the Reds have allowed more than the 124 runs by the D’Backs this year. That figures to be an issue against the hot-hitting Cards.

St. Louis started the season being swept by the Pirates in 3 games, outscored 15-7. Since that time, St. Louis has gone 12-6, outscoring the opposition 130-74. In the last 5 games, the Cards have totaled 45 runs or 9 RPG. The Monday win by Arizona was a rare one in this series. With victories the last 2 nights, St. Louis is now commanding the series with recent records of 15-2 and 10-1. It may get no better for Arizona with tonight’s matchup on the mound.

For Arizona, Rubby De La Rosa pitched his best game of the season in his most recent outing. It was a 7-1 win vs. the Pirates, in which he worked 6 IP allowing just 1 run on 3 hits. In his previous 2 starts, however, De La Rosa posted a 9.00 ERA. For the season, his record is 2-3 with a 5.94 ERA.

That is far inferior to his mound opponent for tonight, Michael Wacha.  After a shaky first start, Wacha has pitched to a 1.50 ERA in his 3 previous outings. He comes off an outstanding game in which he worked 6 IP, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in an 11-2 win vs. the Padres. For the year, Wacha is now 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA. Far prefer those numbers over those of De La Rosa.

Betting Analysis:
The combination of great offensive form by the St. Louis Cardinals, their ultra-strong history against the D’Backs and the clear edge on the mound adds up to a meaningful edge at a short road price against an Arizona team, who is just 4-9 on their home field this season. I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB picks on St. Louis tonight.
