We’re almost 100 games into the 2014 MLB Season with August around the corner. If teams haven’t figured it out yet, they most likely won’t. Time to figure out your betting picks for Sunday.

Seattle Mariners (52-45) vs. Los Angeles Angels (58-38)
Angels Are Still Hot As Ever
Just because the Los Angeles Angels lost to the Seattle Mariners in extra innings yesterday is no reason to fade them. I hit with the under the total on that game in a Hernandez vs. Richards matchup. Now that King Felix is out of the way, Seattle’s safety net is gone and the Angels should have a legitimate chance at winning Sunday’s game with Tyler Skaggs (5-5, 4.50) starting despite facing a tough starter in Chris Young (8-6, 3.15)

The pitching advantage goes to the Mariners, but the Angels have been dominant on offense, leading the major leagues in runs and are 3rd in the league in on-base percentage and batting average.

Young has been a hard luck loser. Despite allowing 5 runs in his last 13 innings, he’s dropped his last 2 starts due to lack of run support. This is a pitcher that will give a team 6 to 7 innings per start and not allow more than 3 runs. Teams seek a pitcher such as Chris Young, but their respective offenses have to be able to back it up with run support.

The Odds
I know that the Angels have won 8 out of their last 10 games and have been dominant, but Seattle has the decisive edge in starting pitching and odds maker have created the Angels as too big an underdog. After yesterday’s victory by Seattle, the Angels might have lost a bit of steam and with Young on the mound I’m siding with the Mariners as the live dog here as your betting pick.

Sunday Night Baseball

Los Angeles Dodgers (54-45) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (54-44)
Another Kershaw “No-No”?
The last time that Clayton Kershaw (11-2, 1.78) pitched on Sunday Night Baseball, he pitched a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts. The game should’ve actually been a perfect game, but Hanley Ramirez committed a 7th inning error to take away the perfect game. Ever since this game, Kershaw has been perfect. Both teams desperately need this game and having the best pitcher in the league gives the Dodgers a decisive edge whether it be on the road or at home.

How Good Is He?
Since the no-hitter (June 18th), Kershaw has allowed just 1 run in 41 innings pitched while striking out 55 batters! Before the no-hitter, Kershaw allowed 7 runs in his previous 33 innings. Now that’s what I call domination.

He’s allowing opposing hitters to just a .191 batting average collectively this season. The odds for the Dodgers with Kershaw starting will be a bit more tolerable as he’s on the road and against a tough team in the redbirds.

Matt Adams
Of course the Cardinals have the three Matts in Matt Holliday, Matt Adams, and Matt Carpenter. It hasn’t been a banner year for the Matts this season except for the play of Matt Adams.

He’s batting .316 in the month of July with 3 HR and 10 RBI and on the season, Adams is hitting .324 with 12 HR and 43 RBI. Kershaw will have his hands full with Matt Adams as he comes up with timely hits.

MLB Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -180 at 5 Dimes – 2 UNIT PLAY
