We split a pair of MLB Picks on Thursday’s short-slate with Matt Adams saving us from a big losing day. but for Sunday night I plan on coming away with a pair of winning tickets from Bovada sportsbook. Season MLB Props Record: 9-7 (+1.75 units)

Josh Bell O/U 2 runs, hits and RBI

I’ve had the pleasure of watching a lot of Josh Bell at bats over the last few years. He spent half of last season in Indianapolis and since he joined the Pirates full-time this season, he has hit particularly well against right-handers.

It was like that in the minors with this guy. He has a lot of talent and I think he will eventually be a .300 hitter, but it might only be from the left side of the plate.

Bell showed a glimpse of this in the minors. His power was way better in Triple-A from the left side and so far in the majors, that has been the story.

Bell owns a .349 wOBA against righties this season with 10 home runs, 26 RBI and 24 runs scored over 216 plate appearances. Against a guy like Mike Leake, who is susceptible to getting burned on Sunday Night Baseball tonight, I like Bell’s chances of cashing the over on this one.

Bell is in a nice groove right now, hitting 5-for-15 over his last four games with 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. If he can stay hot against Leake on national television tonight, I like his chances of hitting another bomb tonight and the betting odds are on par.

Mike Leake O/U 4 ½ strikeouts

While Mike Leake does have the potential to give up a few runs tonight against the Pirates, he also could end up with five or six strikeouts, giving is some nice over potential against this Pirates lineup.

The Pirates don’t strikeout a lot. They have a team strikeout rate of under 20 percent. However, Leake has also seen his strikeout rate go up this season. He is striking out 17.8 percent of the batters he faces this season and his strikeout totals have been good over the last few months.

Leake has struck out five batters or more in seven of his last eight starts and nine of his last 12 starts. I think he keeps that going here tonight and strikeouts out five or more for our MLB picks against the Bucs.
