Boston bats have done their damage late in the first two games vs. Detroit, and the Red Sox are favored on the MLB odds to finish off the broom job of the Tigers.

Detroit Tigers vs Boston Red Sox

Looking to hang tight with the Yankees in the division race, the Boston Red Sox go for a sweep of the Detroit Tigers on the next installment of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. A clash of lefthanders is on tap with Daniel Norris facing Drew Pomeranz, the Red Sox priced -154 at with 10½ for the total.

Jackie Bradley Jr. homered to cap a 3-run eighth inning on Friday as the Red Sox rallied for a 5-3 decision. Late scoring was also key Saturday when Boston broke out against Detroit relievers in an 11-3 final that put Chris Sale into the winner’s circle for the eighth time. Sale and the Red Sox were -188 chalk on the MLB odds and stayed three behind New York in the AL East. The Tigers took 3-of-4 in Detroit back in early-April and had won seven of the last nine in Boston before the series got underway.

Pomeranz Seeking 4th-Straight Win

Norris has yet to really find any consistency this season, only five of his 11 trips to the bump meeting the definition of a quality start. Detroit has won three of his last five assignments, but the young Tennessean is looking for his first dubya since May 1. He took a no-decision against the Sox in Motown in his season debut, pitching into the seventh and allowing three runs in a 7-5 Boston triumph, and tonight is Norris’ first career start at Fenway.

Pomeranz earned his third consecutive victory earlier this week in New York, the former Ole Miss star allowing just one earned run in five innings of a 5-4 Boston decision. He has been a boon to the Red Sox and baseball bettors when working at home in 2017, Boston winning five of his six assignments at Fenway Park, good for a 3.35 unit ROI. Pomeranz missed the Tigers in Detroit back in April and owns a 1-1 record with a 2.25 ERA against them in two career starts and a relief appearance.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Alfonso Marquez completes the series behind the mask for the umpires, the 19-year veteran acting as crew chief in Larry Vanover’s absence. It’s his second plate assignment at Fenway this year, recently working an ‘over’ there with Chris Sale on the mound and also working an ‘over’ in a Norris road start for the Tigers back in April, those two results part of a strong 9-2 O/U record in ’17.

Clear skies, temps in the mid-80s to start the game and a 10-15 mph SW wind (out to center) is on tap in Beantown tonight. I’m getting behind the home team for my free baseball pick with a run line play.
