We’ve been on the right track as the weather and the bats have started to heat up. Let’s take at look  Sunday’s series closing ball games and make our betting picks for today.

Joe C. Record
117-112-1 -24.91 Units

We had another winning day yesterday and I just want to say one thing about a trend that seems to be gold. Whenever the Colorado Rockies are at home and the opposing pitcher isn’t a number one or possibly number two starter, the game has been going over the total every time and I’m going to be looking for this all summer long.

Toronto Blue Jays (47-42) vs. Oakland Athletics (54-33)
Finally Some Run Support
Jeff Samardzija finally gets the monkey off of his back and is traded to a team that will score more than 1 run per game for him.

If he pitches like he did in Chicago, his win total will shoot up as the Oakland Athletics are one of the best teams in the majors and have the best run differential where runs for and runs against are concerned.

Today, Samardzija opposes a tough customer in Drew Hutchinson (6-6, 3.81) and a bunch of hard-hitting Toronto Blue Jay bats; this will be no cakewalk.

No EE?
Toronto has gotten beaten up this series, especially after losing to Scott Kazmir yesterday. To add insult to injury, their best hitter, Edwin Encarnacion, injured his leg and might not be in the lineup. That would be 26 home runs and 70 runs batted in missing from the lineup, a major blow to the Jays, and a definite benefit to Samardzija’s cause.

One player that would need to step up is leadoff man Jose Reyes. Reyes isn’t hitting nearly as good as he did last season. The leadoff position is very important and Reyes hasn’t produced to his potential this season. He’s batting just .257 and is starting the month of July off very slowly, going 5 for his last 23 with no homers and no runs batted in. Reyes needs to get on base today especially facing a hyped up Samardzija.

MLB Pick: Oakland -149 at 5 Dimes

Sunday Night Baseball
Tampa Bay Rays (40-50) vs. Detroit Tigers (48-36)
A Test For Porcello
Tampa Bay has taken such a major drop in production this season as they reside at the bottom of the American League East Division. That said, the Rays are trying to climb back into the post-season race as they’ve won 8 out of their last 10 games. They now must face one of the best offenses in the league in the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are also sending Rick Porcello (11-4, 3.12) to the mound and he has had a better season than any Tigers starting pitcher.

The Ace Of the Staff?
When you have names like Verlander, Sanchez, and Scherzer, this is difficult to believe as Porcello has pitched back-back complete game shutouts. In his last 24 innings, Porcello hasn’t allowed a single run.

Although Tampa Bay has players in their offense that are deadly such as Evan Longoria and have been on fire as of late, I’m siding with Porcello, who has Miguel Cabrera and the Martinez’s backing him offensively at Comerica Park.

MLB Pick: Detroit +107 at Bookmaker (Fantastic Odds!)
