Tampa Bay Rays vs. Kansas City Royals

The Defending Champs Are On a Roll
On a 5 game winning streak and having taken possession of the lead in the American League Central Division, the Kansas City Royals are starting to get into the same groove that they were in last year that helped them win the World Series.

With Eric Hosmer and Lorenzo Cain tearing the cover off of the ball, the Royals look unstoppable. Tonight, they face a Tampa Bay Rays (22-28)  and a pitcher with good stuff in Chris Archer (3-6, 4.62) who has been very inconsistent this season and the Royals will look to strike while the iron is hot. Will Archer come up with his occasion gem is the question?

Last night, the game was tight at 2-2 until Tampa Bay scored a run in the 8th inning and Kansas City answered the Rays with 4 runs of their own to defeat the Rays, 6-2.

Everyone single player in the Royals lineup contributed as Eric Hosmer led the way, going 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI's. Even though Hosmer and Lorenzo Cain are the team leaders, on any given day a different player could contribute to a victory whether it be a Salvador Perez defensive save behind the plate or home run or a Jarrod Dyson stolen base. The Royals win with teamwork as they don't possess an elite pitching staff.

Very Underrated
It's time that the fans take notice that Eric Hosmer is a legitimate superstar. I remember some big time defensive plays in the post-season that he made last season to help keep the Royals in a respective series and he's as consistent as it get's with the bat. This season, Hosmer is hitting 10 HR, 35 RBI, and a .330 BA. He's a red hot 14 for his last 26 with 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 14 runs batted in. It doesn't get any better than that and I expect Hosmer to stay consistent as he's not a player with a lot of highs and lows.

Lorenzo Cain is now starting to hit like the star that he is, but he started of the season slow and Hosmer has carried this team. The Royals know what it's like to win the big game and are playing with a ton of confidence offensively. They're never out of a game as they can win from behind and the way that Chris Archer is pitching, I like K.C. in tonight's matchup as the MLB odds are spectacular.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies

Coors Field Is the New "Launching Pad"
We already knew that Coors Field is a place where tons of runs are going to be scored due to the altitude, but games such as yesterday's Colorado 17-4 victory over the Reds almost make it a joke as average players are blasting homers. Let me think about it. Did anyone in the Rockies lineup not hit a home run last night?

Odds makers always place the betting total in double figures and I usually make my choice related according to the pitchers, but the Rockies are playing a very weak Cincinnati team on the road. The Reds are 5-20 away from home and sending out John Lamb (0-3, 6.85 ERA), who hasn't had much success this season. It should be "bombs away" again tonight.

How Bad Is John Lamb?
In his last 3 starts, he's 0-3 and has pitched 13 2/3 innings while allowing 16 runs on 23 hits. Lamb is also a pitcher with control issues. In a short sampling, he's 1-8 for his career with a 6.14 ERA. The Reds are paper thin where their starters are concerned to be sending out a pitch that's not ready to face a home run happy team in Colorado at a venue where offense takes centerstage? Look for Lamb to make an early exit.

While the Reds have home run hitters in Adam Duvall (13), Jay Bruce Bruce (10), Eugenio Suarez (10), and Joey Votto (9), Colorado possesses hitters such as Nolan Arenado (16 HR, 43 RBI, and .287 BA), Carlos Gonzalez (10 HR, 22 RBI, .312 BA), and Trevor Story (14 HR, 36 RBI) who are more than capable of matching the Reds. The Rockies also have players such as Charlie Blackmon and D.J. Lemahieu who are both hitting over .300 and can strike anytime at Coors Field. Blackmon is coming off of a 2 HR, 5 RBI effort to end the month of May. Over 11 is the play in the game.
