The Brewers are red hot as they head to the North Side of Chicago for a big weekend series with their rivals, but it’s the Cubs whom the MLB odds favor Thursday night under Wrigley’s lights.

A tight 4-team race in the NL Central finds the top four combatants facing off against one another on April’s final weekend, highlighted by a long set on the Windy City’s North Side, where the Cubs host the Brewers. Thursday’s lid-lifter gets underway at 8:05 PM (ET) with Milwaukee’s Chase Anderson (2-1, 3.25) on tap against Kyle Hendricks (1-1, 4.09), Chicago chalked in the -150s.

The Cubs just finished a 3-2 road trip through Colorado and Cleveland, dropping the finale of their 2-game series against the Indians on Wednesday. The Brewers, meanwhile, started a 9-game road trip in Kansas City, where they swept the Royals to balloon their win streak to eight. Milwaukee is on top of the NL Central with Chicago three games back in fourth, the pair sandwiching St. Louis and Pittsburgh between them.

Both Hurlers Have Been Prone To Giving Up The Long Ball

Anderson is coming off back-to-back victories – beating the Mets in New York and the Marlins at home – and the Brewers are 4-1 when he takes the mound with any bettors following him 3.0 units. His first four starts stayed ‘under’ the MLB odds as Milwaukee’s lineup combined to score 12 runs before exploding for 12 in the win over Miami a week ago. The Texan is 2-1 in five starts at the Friendly Confines with a 4.35 ERA in nearly 21 innings.

Chicago plated six runs in Hendricks’ first three starts, each ending up in the loss column for the Cubs, but the sticks backed him plenty last Friday in Colorado in a 16-5 drubbing of the Rockies. Hendricks got the win but served up another homer to give him five in his last 16 frames. The Dartmouth alum faced the Brewers in Milwaukee earlier this month, allowing two long balls and four runs during his 5-inning stay of a 5-4 loss. The Cubs are 4-3 in his seven career starts vs. the Brewers in Chicago, Hendricks pitching to a 3.29 ERA (41 IP).

Rivalry Trends, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

The clubs met about three weeks ago in Milwaukee, where the Cubs took 3 of 4. The only ‘over’ of that series was the one Hendricks started for Chicago, the 5-4 Brewers dubya just stepping above an 8½-run closing total at Intertops. Last year’s meetings in the Windy City went to ‘over’ bettors seven out of nine contests after the four previous seasons each leaned in favor of the ‘under’ (14-23-1 O/U/P combined 2013-16).

What little bit of wind there is tonight in Chicago should be from the south (out to right, right-center) with cloudy skies and temps in the low-to-mid 50s. Let’s play ‘under’ for our free baseball pick.
