The Angels are turning their season around as they are 8-3 in their last 11 games after winning the series opener vs. the Rangers, and they are the MLB pick to stay hot on Tuesday.

MLB Record: 28-24-1, +7.80

Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
The visiting team may continue its surge Tuesday night that has seen it start to turn what had been a dismal season around when right-hander Jhoulys Chacin and the suddenly resurgent Los Angeles Angels (21-24, 12-10 away) pay a visit to southpaw Martin Perez and the Texas Rangers (25-20, 14-8 home) in the second game of a three-game series from Globe Life Park in Arlington, TX at 8:05 ET in a game available on FOX Sports - Southwest.

The posted money line at Heritage has Los Angeles as a tiny road underdog for this contest at current MLB odds of +102.

Halos in Third Place
The Angels were off to a slow start that had them sitting at 13-21 about two weeks ago, but this mostly veteran team has recovered nicely since then by winning eight of 11 games, most recently taking the series opener here in Arlington last night 2-0 on a two-run homer by the ageless Albert Pujols in the third inning. The Halos have now closed the gap between themselves and the first place Seattle Mariners to 5½ games while third in the American League West.

Those two teams are split by the team in the opposing dugout tonight, the Rangers, who sit in second place just 1½ behind Seattle and four games ahead of the Angels. Texas had been the winning MLB pick in all three games while sweeping the Astros on the road in Houston over the weekend, but the Rangers may have lost some momentum while getting shut out by Nick Tropeano and four relievers last night.

Perez Facing Hot Bats
The Angels had been hot offensively before being held to two runs but getting bailed out by great pitching last night, which is not good news for Perez as he has had his troubles with the Halos even under the best of circumstances. To be fair, Perez did record a Quality Start vs. Los Angeles back on April 10th allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings, but he still lost to the Angels for the third consecutive time and has not beaten them since August 5th, 2013.

Perez has had trouble beating a lot of teams in 2016 given that he is 1-4 despite a fine 3.48 ERA, but that ERA is deceptive when you consider Perez has an awful command ratio of a low 5.13 strikeouts vs. a high 4.64 walks per nine innings, leaving him with a sub-par 4.53 FIP and 4.73 xFIP. That walk rate is the fifth highest among all qualified starting pitchers in all of baseball.

Now Perez must deal with an Angels’ offense that is still averaging 5.38 runs while batting .282 as a team over the last 10 games, even after the bats were kept in good check last night.

Escaped from Atlanta
Chacin must be one happy camper as he was traded by the worst team in the National League, the Atlanta Braves, to the Angels shortly after Los Angeles lost ace Garrett Richards for the season, meaning the veteran former Colorado Rockies pitcher has a regular rotation turn for now for a team that is actually still capable of making the playoffs this year.

Of course, the starting job may be short-lived if he does not improves off of his first two starts in an Angels uniform that have seen him allow a total of six earned runs on 11 hits plus three walks in 11.1 innings. Still, Chacin is a serviceable Major League pitcher that has career 3.84 ERA that is actually quite good considering how much time he spent in Colorado, and he even has a commendable 3.90 FIP and 3.39 xFIP combined over his two stops this year.

Thus, we feel that Chacin should pitch well enough to win here with the Angels expected to give him some good run support, and it also helps that this is his first appearance ever vs. the Rangers.

Angels Love Visiting Lone Star State
Finally, this is one trip that the Angels do not mind making as they are now 18-6 in the last 24 head-to-head meetings here in Arlington after their win in the series opener on Monday. The Angels are also now 6-1 in their last seven road games overall, while the Rangers are 2-10 over Perez’s last 12 starts.

As hot as the Angels are right now, look for those trends to continue with Los Angeles again emerging triumphant visiting the Texas Rangers in Arlington on Tuesday.
