Are you thinking about wagering on Friday’s MLB game between the Blue Jays and Rays? This betting preview on the game can make a difference between winning and losing.

Toronto Blue Jays At Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay hosts Toronto on Friday in the second of a 4-game series between these AL East rivals. The opening pitch at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. is scheduled for 7:10 PM ET. Current MLB betting odds display Toronto as a -112 to -124 moneyline favorite. Depending on which one of the best sportsbooks you’re looking at, the total is either 7.5 or 8.0.

Jays & Rays in 2017

Toronto won the series opener Thursday by a score of 5-2. The win was Toronto’s first of the season and followed losses in its opening two games at Baltimore. Tampa Bay enters with a 2-2 record, with all those games being played at home. Both teams have gone 'under' the total in each of their previous 3 games. Since the start of last season, Tampa Bay is 11-9 against Toronto and 5-6 at home.

 Starting Pitchers

Toronto veteran southpaw Francisco Liriano will make his first start of 2017. Liriano was brilliant in 5 spring training starts. He compiled an excellent 2.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and an extremely impressive 29 strikeouts in 18.0 innings pitched. Liriano made one start vs. Tampa Bay a season ago and allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 6 in 6 1/3 innings. Liriano has gone 74-48 (60.7%) 'under' the total in his MLB career starts and that includes 41-17 (70.7%) on the road.

Tampa Bay will go with right-hander Matt Andriese. He has made 3 career starts against Toronto, with all those coming in 2015. The Rays' hurler posted a lofty 5.25 ERA and failed to reach the fourth inning in 2 of those 3 outings. Andriese wasn’t sharp at all during his spring training appearances. He posted a sizable 6.75 ERA while giving up 17 hits and walking 6 during just 10 2/3 innings pitched.

Final Take & Pick

I won’t be personally wagering on this game. However, the road favored Blue Jays will be one of my MLB free picks for Friday. My opinion is solely based on the starting pitching matchup. I like Liriano much more than Andriese at this juncture.
