Do you want your MLB wagering day to get begin in a profitable manner? We’re sure your answer is yes, so take the time to read our betting preview on Saturday’s early game between Boston and Detroit. This fact-filled article culminates with one of our free MLB picks.

Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers

The Red Sox and Tigers will play the 2nd of a 3-game weekend series on Saturday. The opening pitch at Comerica Park in Detroit is slated for 1:10 PM ET. Current MLB betting odds shows Detroit as anywhere from -105 to -115 on the money line. There’s a posted total of either 8.5 or 9.0 depending on which one the best sportsbooks you’re shopping at.

Exciting Series Opener

Detroit took the opening game of the series 6-5 on Friday afternoon. The Tigers squandered a 4-0 lead in the top of the 8th when Boston scored 5 times to forge ahead. Nevertheless, they bounced back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and then held Boston to a scoreless 9th. The win improved Detroit’s record to 2-1. The loss was Boston’s first of the season, and their record now sits at 2-1 as well.

Starting Pitchers

Southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to make his first start of the season on Saturday. Rodriguez was 3-7 in 20 starts a season ago while posting a rather lofty 4.71 ERA. However, he pitched much better on the road than at Fenway Park. The Red Sox hurler had a respectable 3.71 ERA and stellar 1.14 WHIP during 11 road starts.

Right-hander Jordan Zimmerman will take the mound for Detroit. Zimmerman went a perfect 5-0 last April while posting a dominating 0.55 ERA. Unfortunately, the remainder of his season turned out to be a disaster. Zimmerman made just 14 starts the rest of the way due to injuries, and finished 9-7 in 19 starts while posting an uninspiring 4.87 ERA. If his spring training performances were any indication, Zimmerman is far from regaining the excellent form he displayed last April. He made 6 starts during Spring Training games and compiled a mammoth 9.42 ERA.

Last Call

Eduardo Rodriguez has a shiny 2.92 ERA in 2 career starts against Detroit, with 1 each coming in 2015 and 2016. The Boston left-hander was also solid in 6 spring training starts where collected a 3.68 ERA during those outings. I have huge concerns regarding Jordan Zimmerman, he’s been on a downward spiral in terms of health and pitching performances for a prolonged period. I like Boston to bounce back with a win on Saturday, and one of my MLB picks will reflect that prognostication.
