Between Gio Gonzalez/Johnny Cueto and Jason Verlander/Matt Shoemaker, which starting pitcher has the highest MLB betting value? Read this informative MLB handicapping article to better your bets.

Washington Nationals (Gonzalez) vs. Cincinnati Reds (Cueto) 4:05 PM ET
The Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez is 4-1 in his last 5-starts against the money line with a stellar 1.74 ERA. However, he’s been a bit shaky over his last 2-appearances posting a lofty 5.40 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. The Nationals southpaw has seen each of his last 3 starts on the road stay under the total, thanks in large part to his contributing 1.37 ERA in those outings. Since the start of the 2012 season Gonzalez has gone 3-0 against the money line when facing the Reds, and posted an outstanding 1.35 ERA. He will be facing a Reds lineup today that averages just 0.86 home runs per game this season. Gonzalez has gone an extremely profitable 25-6 against the money line over the last 2-seasons, when facing an opponent that averages 0.90 or less home runs per game.

The Reds starter Johnny Cueto has gone 4-0 against the money line in his last 4-starts at home, posting a sparkling 2.05 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and an almost 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio in those outings. Cueto has seen 24 of his 31-starts during the day stay under the total during the last 3-seasons. The hard throwing right-hander has gone a perfect 10-0 against the money line at home over the last 3-seasons when facing an opponent with a winning record.

MLB Betting Advantage
This is an extremely close call when looking for a wagering edge in this starting pitching confrontation. After eliminating pitching handicapping data which amounted to a virtual wash. I’m going to give the slight edge to Johnny Cueto in this one, solely based on his consistently dominate performance line at home this season.

Detroit Tigers (Verlander) vs. Los Angeles Angels (Shoemaker) 9:05 PM ET
The Tigers starter Jason Verlander hasn’t performed this season up to the standards this that avid MLB bettors have been used to in recent years. He’s gone a very vanilla like 12-9 against the money line on the year with an unimpressive 4.78 ERA. Despite his winning money line record, he’s still managed to lose 1.70 wagering units on the year. The Tigers veteran right-hander has seen just 6 of his 21-starts in 2014 stay under the total. He’s managed to stay under the total in his last 3 road starts, but that’s a bit deceiving considering he posted a lofty 4.74 ERA in those outings. Verlander has displayed shaky form over his last 3-starts as evidenced by a less than stellar 5.68 ERA.

The Angels starter Matt Shoemaker has been in horrible form over his last 3-starts posting a large 8.04 ERA and a 1.72 WHIP. The Angels young hurler has managed to go 7-3 against the money line this season, and has brought MLB bettors a very nice rate of return by showing a profit of 4.6 units in doing so.

MLB Betting Advantage
I’m not willing to go out on a limb by giving one of these starters an edge in this spot. I will say this, a high scoring game looks to be in order with all being considered. I would suggest going over the total when making a MLB wager in this game.
