The Rockies get a chance to come back home, where they hit the ball much better, to take on the Cardinals today. Two good pitchers take the mound for both teams but oddsmakers have still made this total quite high considering it is in Colorado. Where is the value found?

St. Louis Cardinals

Carlos Martinez takes the mound for St. Louis and comes in with a 3.28 ERA and 1.14 whip on the season. Over the past few years, he’s had a few opportunities to face Colorado and he has not pitched very well with a 4.42 ERA overall and five games pitched with the Rockies hitting .329 against him. In Coors field, however, he has been somewhat ok with a 3.18 ERA in his two appearances, but Colorado’s hitting a solid .289 against him in their home park.

At the plate St. Louis has started to come alive and currently are hitting .256 as a team and averaging 8.91 hits per game ranking them 12th and 11th in the major leagues respectively. Although their power numbers are not particularly strong this is a really solid lineup up and down and I expect for them to be able to put together some quality at-bats and put up some runs in this hitter friendly park.

 Colorado Rockies

Colorado has their rookie Antonio Senzatela getting the call tonight and he comes in with a 3.67 ERA and 1.22 whip. At home, his numbers go up a little bit of course as he has a 3.77 ERA so far this season. This will be his first opportunity to face St. Louis and although he has pitched particularly well I have a hard time believing he’s going to hold St. Louis to reasonable number tonight.

Colorado has been one of the best hitting teams in baseball and at home, they can really put up some runs in a hurry. Overall the season they rank in the top 10 in most categories highlighted by averaging 5.17 runs per game, hitting .267 as a team, and averaging 9.10 hits per game ranking them fourth, sixth, and seventh, in the major leagues respectively. Although they are facing an extremely good pitcher tonight in Martinez they have had a bit of success against him against in the past so they should come into this game with some confidence.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Colorado Rockies

Oddsmakers have set the total for this game at a high 10.5 runs and for my MLB pick, I’m going to back 'Over'. Although this seems like a really high total I expect for this hitter friendly park to give up plenty of runs.
