Mining the Diamond did the splits yesterday but the Padres cashed as +182 road dogs over the Giants and we wound up plus money for the day. Let’s review the MLB odds and sweep on Friday night!

Brewers (52-46, +13.8 Units) at Phillies (32-61, -20.8 Units)
  • Philadelphia is 15-40 (-21.3 Units) in night games this season.
  • Philadelphia is 21-47 (-21.7 Units) against right-handed starters this season.
  • Philadelphia is 3-11 (-7.9 Units) when playing on Friday this season.
  • Milwaukee is 33-27 (+12.4 Units) in night games this season.
  • Milwaukee is 24-22 (+10.1 Units) in road games this season.
  • Milwaukee is 9-6 (+5.1 Units) when playing on Friday this season.

The Phillies are sending Aaron Nola (6-6, 3.54 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) to the hill tonight and he’s been all kinds of good lately. The 24-year-old Baton Rouge product has fashioned a 1-1 record with a 1.71 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in his three starts in July. The worst team in baseball has won three of their last four and when the public sees a mild winning streak, coupled with a pitcher who has chucked the ball well of late, they immediately forget that the team in question has a .344 win percentage and thus, the money flows on the lousy home club.

Well, we are all about taking advantage of these mass delusions which is why we are confident that the Brewers, in the midst of a five-game losing streak, will prevail with veteran Matt Garza (4-4, 3.84 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) on the mound. Garza has a 1-0 record over his last three starts with a brilliant 1.65 ERA and his team is 12-5 (+5.9 Units) over the last three seasons against Philadelphia and 6-2 (+4.1 Units) in this season alone. Grab what the MLB odds makers are giving you and back the road dog here.

Nationals (57-37, +2.1 Units) at Diamondbacks (55-40, +12.6 Units)
  • Arizona is 5-9 (-5.4 Units) in July this season.
  • Arizona is 74-113 (-23.2 Units) when playing against a team with a winning record over the last three seasons.
  • Arizona is 1-5 (-4.2 Units) versus the Nationals in all games played in Arizona over the last three seasons.
  • Washington’s starter Max Scherzer is 5-0 when starting against the Diamondbacks with an ERA of 2.41 and a WHIP of 0.878 over his career.
  • Washington is 39-16 (+18.4 Units) in night games this season.
  • Washington is 7-2 (+4.0 Units) when playing with a day off this season.

This one is all about Mad Max Scherzer (11-5, 2.01 ERA, 0.79 WHIP). The Nats’ ace has been a beast this season and even better on the road where he boasts an 8-2 record with a sparkling 1.36 ERA and a stunning 0.75 WHIP. Scherzer’s career team record versus the Diamondbacks is 6-0 (+6.0 Units) with an ERA of 2.41 and a WHIP of 0.878.

While taking nothing away from Arizona’s starter Zack Godley (3-4, 3.09 ERA, 0.99 WHIP), who has performed well for the Snakes, his last three starts reveal a 0-3 record with a 4.82 ERA. The Nationals are the No. 2 ranked offense in the league and with Scherzer toeing the slab, they are the right side to add in our MLB picks even though the price may seem a bit steep against a solid Arizona ball club.
