I’m sure the Los Angeles Dodgers are excited they to get Julio Urias back on the mound and oddsmakers have made the Dodgers and the young left-hander a small favorite. However, is there any value in backing the Giants?

Los Angeles Dodgers

Julio Urias takes the mound for Los Angeles and comes in with a 3.39 ERA and 1.45 whip over his 18 career appearances, 15 of them being starts. He definitely has a huge upside and the Dodgers are very excited to have him as a part of their rotation going forward. He only had an opportunity to face the Giants a couple of times last year but he pitched well allowing just three earned runs over seven innings but allowed seven hits. Despite the potential he has to be a top tiered pitcher in the league I think there is good value in fading him today and his first start in this rivalry. Los Angeles has been decent offensively but they still are averaging just 4.19 runs per game which ranks them 17th in the league and are only hitting .245 which ranks them 14th. As well, Los Angeles continues to show the propensity to struggle a little bit against left-handers as they are hitting just .224 as a team against them in 294 at-bats so far this season. This game could go either way so I will grab the plus money line.

 San Francisco Giants

Matt Moore gets the start for San Francisco and comes in with a 5.87 ERA and 1.57 whip in four starts so far this season. What I like about him today though is the fact that over the past three years he has been a really good home pitcher, as well as Los Angeles is hitting just .217 against him in that timeframe. At the plate San Francisco has been less than stellar hitting just .235 as a team and faring not much better against left-handers. However, they don’t strike out very much ranking fourth in the league in strikeouts and I happen to think they have a decent offensive lineup despite their early woes so far this season. Recently, they haven’t done much at the plate but I think this a good spot for them to break out of their recent slump and put up enough to give Moore a chance for the victory.

MLB Odds

Oddsmakers have come out making San Francisco a +115 underdog in this spot and for my major league pick, I will take them on the plus money line. Although they have been swinging some light bats I think this game to go either way so there is good value I believe in backing the home team in this rivalry.
