Starting pitching plays a major role in some favorable games to the bettor. Let's take a look at these games in which there's a decisive edge with in-depth analysis and watch as we "spit out" two winning bets for the betting public. It's MLB Picks of the Day For Tuesday.

Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers
At 89-48, the Chicago Cubs are treating the opposition like little leaguers and simply destroying anything that comes their way with a combination of great pitching and good hitting. While the Cubs already know their destiny after the regular season is complete, they want to stay hot, therefore these game have some meaning.

In tonight's game against the Brew Crew, they get a very favorable starting pitching matchup as Jason Hammel (14-7,3.14 ERA) get's the start. After one of the worst outings that you'll see at Coors Field on the 21st of August, Hammel has bounced back and proven that he can overcome adversity.

A Storybook Season
On August 21st against the Colorado Rockies, Hammel allowed a massive 10 runs on 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings pitched, but we have to remember that this was at Coors Field and home runs are a regular occurrence at this venue. Since then, Hammel is coming off of an outing against Pittsburgh in which he picked up the victory, allowing 1 run on 3 hits in 6 innings.

This is a pitcher that's played well all season long behind Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester in the starting pitching rotation. Hammel has allowed the opposition to hit just .224 off of him and is 7-2 in his last 9 starts. Chicago has to feel confident with Hammel facing a bottom-feeding Milwaukee Brewers (60-77) squad, which is going nowhere except for playing golf once the MLB Regular Season is complete.

The Cubs are coming off of a 7-2 victory over Milwaukee in which they scored 6 runs in the 7th and 8th innings to virtually steal this game away from Milwaukee. Chicago also proved that they didn't have to rely on their two top hitters in Anthony Rizzo (26 HR ,93 RBI,.292 BA) and Kris Bryant (36 HR, 91 RBI, .302 BA) as both hitters combined to go 0 for 9 in this game. That said, the Rizzo and Bryant are the Cubbies "bread and butter" and this was just one game. I look for one or both of them to be a factor in tonight's game as the Cubs should have an easy time of it as the heavy favorite, in the MLB odds board, with Jason Hammel outpitching a non-productive Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. N.Y Yankees
The American League East Division-leading Toronto Blue Jays (77-60) are a moderate betting favorite against a New York Yankees team (71-65) which has been playing very well as of late as the Yankees are still in the wild-card race despite "playing for the future" with all of their call-ups from the minor league. Yankee management believes that anything can happen and they're playing for this season. This is a very important game for both team as Toronto can ill-afford to lose a 2nd consecutive game to New York, opening up the opportunity for the rest of this AL East Division.

Aaron Sanchez
Sanchez was one of my picks to win the AL Cy Young Award at long odds and the pick looked like it might land a lot of loot, but the Blue Jays are trying to preserve Sanchez's arm and he's receiving a lot of time between starts. Thus far this season, he's been a near perfect 13-2 with a 2.88 ERA. Sanchez doesn't just play well at the Rogers Centre. He pitches to a 2.53 ERA on the road this season. Not only that, he's taken care of business where the New York Yankees are concerned, allowing a mere run in 12 2/3 innings. I was looking at the Yankees as the great value after a 5-3 victory on Labor Day against Toronto, but Aaron Sanchez is a formidable foe and won't make things easy for the Bombers.

All or Nothing
That's the type of player that Jacoby Ellsbury is for the Yankees. While he hasn't lived up to his contract, he's had moments of brilliance like stealing home plate on more than one occasion. When Elllsbury is in the zone, he's a great number 1 or 2 hitter. Yesterday, he showed what he's capable of as he went 3 for 4 with 1 HR and 3 RBI's. Despite hitting just .268 for the season, Ellsbury has been hot as of late, hitting .391 with 1 HR and 6 RBI's in his last 23 at-bats. Ellsbury is also hitting .300 against Aaron Sanchez and .311 against the Blue Jays. When Jacoby Ellsbury play's well, the New York Yankees play well and I expect them to put up a major fight against an elite pitcher in Sanchez. The Yankees have some value at home and are my MLB pick for tonight.
