Solid MLB Picks of the Day for Monday June 27th

Monday, June 27, 2016 1:12 PM GMT

Coming off of an undefeated day and a huge win at +235 odds over Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers, we come into the new week with a ton of momentum.

Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels
Mike Trout Is Back!
Mike Trout Is Back! You get great value tonight if backing the Los Angeles Angels as these two teams meet with the Houston Astros winning 7 out of their last 8 games and losing their most recent game and the Los Angeles Angels losing 6 out of their last 7 games while winning their most recent game. The Angels are in a deep hole, in the basement of the American League West Division at 32-44, but this is a long season and Mike Trout is finally starting to deliver some home runs on a regular basis.

Loaded
The Halos face an Astros squad that has been run happy with the likes of Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, and George Springer. Before yesterday's disappointing loss to Kansas City in which the Astros managed just 1 run, they scored 26 runs in their previous 2 games.

Houston didn't know if yesterday's game would go off due to inclement weather, but unfortunatelty for them, it did. One player that is hands and above standing out to be the next superstar in this league is 5 foot 6 Jose Altuve. I've been an Altuve backer all along, but due to his lack of power, people didn't want to jump on the bandwagon. I mean, how many seasons does this guy have to hit .340?

Possible MVP Candidate
This season, Altuve has added power to his game as he's hitting 13 HR, 44 RBI, .347 BA (.425 OBP%) and 18 SB. As of now, he's my vote for MVP, but it's early in the season. In the month of June, Altuve is hitting .395 with 4 HR and 13 RBI. If there were ever player to hit .400 in a season, Altuve would be my MLB pick. Expect another strong game from this superstar.

Off the Charts
Everything that Mike Trout does is off the charts. He saves runs in the field with his exceptional defense and is a beast with the bat. Thus far this season, Trout is also having an MVP-like season and his power has gotten greater as the season has progressed.

Thus far this season, Trout has 16 HR, 52 RBI, .313 BA, and a .411 OBP%. He's the best player in baseball as he can do more things than Miguel Cabrera. In his last 4 games, Trout is 10 for 18 with 6 runs, 2 HR and 3 RBI. He is the face of baseball and I'm looking for Trout to get L.A. out of their funk with a victory at outstanding MLB odds.

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds
The Best vs. the Worst
Even though this is true where the National League Central Division is concerned as the Chicago Cubs, who are on a 2 game losing streak, are 20 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds at 48-26, the Cubbies are just 4-6 in their last 10 games and Jay Bruce can change the complexion of any ball game; especially at home. However, in this game, the Reds (29-47) have to face last season's NL Cy Young Award Winner in Jake Arrieta. The odds are steep, but Arrieta is one of the best in the business.

Another Cy Young In the Works?
After Clayton Kershaw's loss yesterday, this leaves the door open for Arrieta (11-2, 1.74 ERA) as he's been dominant again this season and is on the odds on favorites to win it all in the Cubbies. Opposing hitters have hit a mere .175 off of Jake Arrieta, but there is hope for the Reds as Arrieta has struggled slightly in his last two outings.

In these two performances against St. Louis and Pittsburgh, Arrieta was only able to pitch up until the 6th inning. His numbers were still outstanding, allowing 1 run on 6 hits in 11 innings, but his pitch count was high and that takes the game out of his hands. He's need's to be more efficient against the Reds.

Finding Himself
The Cincinnati Reds may be in the basement of their division, but it hasn't been from lack of trying from home run hitter, Jay Bruce. Bruce is quietly leading this team offensively with 17 HR, 58 RBI, and a .279 BA. It's basically all or nothing with Bruce, but that's not a bad thing here because if the Reds can hold a struggling Cubs team in check offensively, Bruce can bust this game wide open and the Reds would present more value.

In the month of June, Bruce has 7 HR, 25 RBI, and a .293 BA. When all is said and done, I'm playing with house money and I'm certainly not fading Jake Arrieta, who has Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo hitting behind him.
