Are you wondering which way to go on Sunday’s Padres and Braves game? Then go inside and let our MLB handicapping professional lead you on the right path to a winning choice.

San Diego Padres vs. Atlanta Braves

San Diego and Atlanta will play the 3rd of a 4-game series on Sunday afternoon. The opening pitch from brand new Sun Trust Stadium in Atlanta is scheduled for 1:35 PM ET. Atlanta has taken the first 2 games of this series by scores of 5-2 on Friday and 4-2 last night.

Current MLB odds show Atlanta as a -121 to -135 money line favorite. Additionally, there’s a total of either 8.0 or 8.5 depending on the sportsbook.

Probable Starting Pitchers

Trevor Cahill will make his second start of the season for San Diego. The right-handed hurler allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits while walking 3 on 4/5 against the Dodgers. Cahill is 0-3 in his career team starts versus Atlanta with a substantial 8.41 ERA and 1.87 WHIP. Nevertheless, it must be noted, he hasn’t faced the Braves since 2013. Cahill spent last season with the world champion Chicago Cubs and worked primarily as a reliever. He went 4-4 with a stellar 2.74 ERA which included just 1 start and 49 relief appearances.

Atlanta will send 42-year old veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon to the mound. Colon has made 2 starts this season and posted a lofty 6.30 ERA during 10.0 innings of work.  He was very shaky during his previous outing at Miami, allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits while walking 2 in 4.0 innings pitched. Colon made 1 start in each of the past 2 years against San Diego and had an awful 9.00 ERA while giving up 16 hits and 3 home runs in only 9.0 innings.

Last Words and Prediction

Atlanta is off to a 2-0 start at their new home digs. I’m not crazy about either of today’s starting pitchers. However, San Diego has scored 3 runs or less in 8 of 12 games this season. Meanwhile, dating back to last season, Atlanta is 10-2 in their last 12 games as a money line favorite and 15-6 during its previous 21 at home. I won’t be betting this game today, but one of my opinion based MLB picks is on the reasonably priced money line home favorite.
