Some teams we could consider placing MLB picks on are blowing major opportunities to either lower their magic number or win a division with bad losses at this point in the season. Find out who makes it on top picks of the day.

Capper Catalano’s Record: 202-177 -22.94 Units
In yesterday's MLB Picks of the Day, we took a huge risk on Rick Porcello and a Detroit Tigers team who should’ve won their respective game easily in a 3-unit play and they lost 4-3. With our 1-unit play, we took the Angels and Mariners to go over the total and the Angels keep hitting the over whether it be them scoring the runs or the opposing team; little consolation.

Milwaukee Brewers (79-72) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (83-68)

NL Central
The National League Central Division has belonged to the Milwaukee Brewers all season long, but a late season collapse has led to them trying to just make a wild card spot as they’re 1.5 games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2nd and final NL wild card spot.

On the hand, the St. Louis Cardinals keep finding ways to win their division every season and they have the top spot yet again. Nothing is etched in stone and being that this is a divisional game, it’s huge; it basically has a two game swing.

Fired Up
This is where the problem comes in. Milwaukee starts Mike Fiers and we don’t know how he’ll react in this game. His last game, he hit Giancarlo Stanton in the face with the baseball and this could have a lasting effect on Fiers (6-2, 1.84). Right after Stanton, he came in with the baseball again to the next batter and the benches cleared. We’ll see how this plays out as Fiers and the Brewers face Adam Wainwright (18-9, 2.56) and the Cardinals in St. Louis. If Fiers comes close to a batter, he could make an early exit.

Righting the Ship
After a real rough spell, Wainwright has had 2 awesome outing in which he’s allowed just 2 run in 17 innings. The only issue in this game is run support. Milwaukee has the superior offense with the likes of Gomez, Lucroy, Braun, and Ramirez, but home field advantage and Adam Wainwright give the Cards the edge in this game for you to apply to your free picks.

Free MLB Pick: St. Louis -140  at 5 Dimes – 2 Units- (I don’t feel good about Fiers after he plunked Stanton and also Milwaukee has simply collapsed and let the pressure get to them.)

San Francisco Giants (83-68) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (62-89)

D’Back Destruction
Although any team can win a baseball game on any given day, it’s not likely to happen with the Arizona Diamondbacks in this spot as they face Madison Bumgarner (18-9, 2.91) with a pitcher in Andrew Chafin who has pitched a grand total of 5 innings in the majors. In those 5 innings, Chafin allowed just 3 hits against Cleveland, but that’s not enough to sway me in the direction of Arizona, who is 32-45 at Chase Field.

Buster Posey
The Giants are coming off of two consecutive games in which they scored 2 runs apiece. That said, they have one player that has really been hitting well in the past couple of months and can be a difference maker in Buster Posey.

Posey had been hitting in the .270’s all season long, but now finds himself with 21 HR, 86 RBI, and a .312 BA. Those numbers are great from a catcher and expected from Posey, who has been a producer in the past. Posey launched his 21st home run in the 4th inning of yesterday’s game to get the Giants started and we could see him be a key figure in an important game against a team that S.F. should steam roll tonight.

The numbers speak for themselves. Posey is hitting a scorching .453 with 3 HR and 15 RBI in the month of September. Now, that’s what I call a money player. My money is on Posey, Bumgarner, and the Giants for this free MLB pick.

Free MLB Pick: San Francisco -195 at 5 Dimes
