If your preference for making MLB picks is short favorites or underdogs, this article might not be for you. If however you want my three best plays for Saturday, get a little closer and start reading.

DWhen surveying the MLB betting odds, these three games jumped off the page for me as MLB baseball handicapper. Never lose sight of the fact it is about winning and I am on a nice little 14-4 run when given the task of writing this piece for Sportbook Review.

Brewers vs. Cubs: Cubs Fever in Chicago
The Chicago Cubs are in second place in the NL Central which has many Cubs having that look which says - “Yea, here we come!” - having a glimmer of confidence about their team. While the story of this team has been about the talented young players, the actual backbone has been the pitching and one in particular has been Jake Arrieta (3-1, 2.03 ERA). It would be too harsh to call the right-hander a washout in Baltimore, but he certainly never met expectations. Since being trade to Chicago, Arrieta has flourished and is one of Joe Maddon’s key chips to winning every five days.

It would seem Arrieta would have no problem containing a Milwaukee offense which averaging a paltry 3.0 runs per game. The Brewers will send Mike Fiers (0-3, 5.79) to the mound and he’s not exactly been on fire, having failed to get an out after the fourth inning in his last two starts. Fiers this season has been basically all or nothing, averaging 10.61 strikeout per nine innings; however, opponents are batting .358 against him which is one of the worst in baseball.

Sportsbooks like have Chicago at -173 on the money line and though this is a rather robust number, it is a bargain from previous figure of -190 for this afternoon affair.

MLB Pick – Chicago -173

Blue Jays vs. Indians: Cleveland to Win Again With Ace on the Hill
The Indians slow start at 8-14 (-8.5 units) has been painful to watch if you have used them frequently for MLB picks. It is not a given all is well, but last night’s 9-4 victory over Toronto was a welcome sight as the offense finally broke thru and Cleveland won for just the third time in 10 tries at Progressive Field.

The Tribe’s everyday line will attempt to help their ace Corey Kluber (0-3, 4.24), the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner. Kluber started the season strong, yet with no wins; he began to press and has surrendered 23 hits in his past two starts in less than 13 innings. The right-hander could use some early run support to help him relax as Cleveland has not won any of his starts this season and the last time a Cy Young winner was winless after six starts the following season was Frank Viola in 1989.

Cleveland hitters should have chances to score against the Blue Jays Aaron Sanchez (1-2, 5.03) and they are 13-2 at home versus a starting pitcher who gives up one or more home runs a start the last three seasons. The betting odds have the Indians at -160 and are the right choice in this encounter.

MLB Pick – Cleveland -160

Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers: L.A. Dodgers Quite Comfortable at Home
Manager Don Mattingly does not have the starting staff he envisioned, but as long the Los Angeles is home, it does not look like it will matter who he tosses out there. The Dodgers are 11-2 (+7.8) and will send Scott Baker (0-1, 3.86) to the mound, who they signed on April 3 to a minor league contract.

Baker is backed by an offense which averaging 5.9 RPG at Chavez Ravine and will face an Arizona squad they are 11-4 against in L.A. Next, calculate Diamondbacks starter Jeremy Hellickson (1-3, 5.24) has seen the teams he pitched for win once in his past unlucky 13 outings, conceding a .333 batting average, and you can understand why the Dodgers are too tempting to pass up even at -150.

MLB Pick – Los Angeles -150
