There are some really good pitching matchups for Saturday’s slate of MLB games. Let’s see if this comes into play when placing our bets. It’s Saturday’s edition of MLB Picks of the Day.

We had our first poor day in a long time as we missed a couple of totals by a small margain. Time to move forward as there are a lot of good games on the MLB slate today.

New York Mets (28-33) vs. San Francisco Giants (40-21)
All They Do Is Win
Keith Hernandez was comparing the Dodgers and Giants in a Mets- Giants broadcast yesterday and he said that although the Dodgers were a much more talented team personnel-wise, he would choose the Giants because of their discipline. This opinion couldn’t be more true. The Giants, who have good pitching, aren’t loaded with talent, but just keep finding ways to win ball games and play with discipline.

Last night, Daniel Murphy hit a 7th inning home run for the Mets to give them a 2-1 lead, but Buster Posey hit a home run of his own as the Giants came back to win the game, 4-2.

Posey was 3 for 4 on the night with a HR and 2 RBI. Posey’s is starting to get hot early in the month of June as he’s hitting .409 in June. Tonight he faces the portly but deadly Bartolo Colon.

Age Is Just a Number
Fans don’t take Bartolo Colon seriously because of his size and age, but the 41 year old Colon has been pitching “lights out” as of late. Colon has been on point in his last 3 starts as he’s allowed just 4 runs in 22 1/3 innings pitched. I’ve watched him and he’s actually done it quite effortlessly. A Colon vs. Hudson matchup has under the total written all over it and that’s the direction that we’re going to take.

MLB Pick: Giants/Mets Under 7 at 5 Dimes -133 (buying a ½ run)

Los Angeles Dodgers (32-30) vs. Colorado Rockies (28-32)
Greinke At Coors Field
The great Zack Greinke at Coors Field against a Colorado team that has lost 8 consecutive games, poses an interesting matchup.

The Rockies have the bats, but their pitching is horrible. I’ve mentioned several times how the Rockies players play much better at Coors Field and the run totals are much higher. Even with Zack Greinke pitching, odds makers have listed the total for this game at 9.5 runs. This seems like a money-making opportunity as even the Coors air can’t stop Greinke (8-2 ,2.50).

A Greinke vs. Chacin (0-4, 5.51) matchup appears to be totally one-sided. Jhoulys Chacin, much to his credit, hasn’t let up more than 4 runs in a game this season, but can only go 5 to 6 innings at best and has 1 quality outing out of 6 starts.

Los Angeles is coming off of a 7-2 victory over Colorado and Colorado’s defense has simply been ineffective. In the Rockies last 3 games alone, they’ve allowed a total of 35 runs! We can see why they’ve lost 8 straight games.

We’re going to make 2 bets here and one will be a 2 unit play. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Zack Greinke, even against the likes of Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Cuddyer and I think that this game will play to the under as did the last Rockies-Dodgers game.

MLB Picks: Dodgers -135 at 5 Dimes – 2 UNITS : Dodgers/Rockies Under 9.5 -110 at 5 Dimes
