We split again yesterday as we sided with King Felix Hernandez and the Mariners and won and took the under in the Miami/Philly game which didn’t come through. I also bought a ½ run which cost a bit of juice. Let’s “go for the gold” today!
Pittsburgh Pirates (6-4) at Milwaukee
Time To Hop On the Brewers Bandwagon
If you haven’t noticed, the Milwaukee Brewers have been the hottest team in baseball, winning their last 7 games and going 6-0 on the road early in the season.
Their pitching, which is their weakness, has held up and their bats have been out in full force. I’m starting to think that this is a possible team to include in betting futures to win the World Series as you’ll grab the Brew Crew at a great price.
The Brewers have always had strong hitting in the early portion of their lineup with Carlos Gomez, Jean Segura, Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez, and Jonathon Lucroy, but the offseason move by Ryan Braun to reach out to the fans in attempting to get his reputation and some solidarity back with this team and the fans, seems to have really payed off. If the pitching holds up, this team can be in the post-season.
Yesterday, Wily Peralta was outstanding, allowing just 1 earned run in 7 innings against the Bucs as Milwaukee won 4-2.
Gallardo gets the start for today’s game for the Brew Crew and we could possibly see their winning streak extend to 8 games. He’s pitched 12 2/3 innings of scoreless ball this season en route to a 2-0 record and this was against two formidable teams in Boston and Atlanta. Pittsburgh being an above .500 team will help us in laying less juice as we side with the Brewers.

New York Mets (4-6) at Los Angeles
Weaver is Due
Just like I stressed to the bettors that Stephen Strasburg was due for a good performance in his last start and he was outstanding, I do the same here as Jered Weaver (0-2, 6.00) is due for a good performance and a team that resides over 2500 miles away from L.A. in the New York Mets with Jonathan Niese (0-1, 3.18) starting, are the perfect candidates.
People forget that Jered Weaver was once the hottest pitcher in the American League, but due to injuries and the Angels overall poor play, Weaver hasn’t been able to get back in the groove. This should also help if we indeed pick the Halos.
Everything Is A Struggle For L.A.
It took them 11 innings, but they finally put the Mets away, 5-4 last night. Now, the Angels have finally reached the .500 mark and we may see them go on a run. That said, they’ll have to do a lot better with the bats.Mike Trout (.275), Kole Calhoun (.200), Albert Pujols (.244), Raul Ibanez (.194), David Freese (.147), Chris Iannetta (.111), and Howie Kendrick (.275) are all hitting below .300.
It seems like everytime a player like Pujols or Freese signs with the Angels, they become a bust. The Albert Pujols signing is a disgrace as he flourished with St. Louis and has given Los Angeles absolutely nothing.
On a Mission
From a Mets perspective, they’re lucky to be 4-6 because they haven’t been able to hit the side of a barn. David Wright has been a major disappointment thus far and the only player on this team hitting is Daniel Murphy (.333). Murphy recently had a baby and there were questions about his loyalty to the team as he wanted to witness the birth. Murph has put the questions to rest and look for a huge season out of the slightly above average 2nd baseman.
We’re going to side with the Angels. Although both teams have been a disappointment. The Angels have the far superior squad and Weaver should come up big in this spot for our baseball picks.
