Indeed the fireworks went off yesterday with a 2-0 day. Now it’s time to continue to pound the bookmakers until the All-Star Break, which is coming up shortly. Here are our Saturday betting picks.

Texas Rangers (37-49) vs. New York Mets (38-48)
Texas Has Packed It In
We’re not even at the All Star Break and it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out that the Texas Rangers are a terrible baseball team. So much that they sent their ace Yu Darvish out there last night and he got beaten up by the Mets off all teams. Darvish could’ve went longer, but the manager decided not to prolong the agony in a 6-5 Mets victory. Texas has now lost 6 straight games and they face the wiley veteran Bartolo Colon (8-6, 3.88) tonight.

Bartolo Colon
Colon is coming off of his first poor start in his last 8 outings. Other than his last start against Pittsburgh, he hadn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs in his previous 7 starts.

This is a pitcher that can go deep into ball games and even though he looks out of shape, pitches quite effortlessly and has been nearly unhittable overall over the last couple of months.

The Young Guns?
It’s not David Wright that’s been leading this team. The young guys have been getting the job done for New York lately. Lucas Duda has proven that he was the correct choice over Ike Davis. Eric Campbell continues his hot hitting with a 3 for 3 performance last night and Travis d’Arnaud has woken up from the dead as his trip to the minor leagues in Las Vegas has made him realize that he’d better step it up or he would never be a major leaguer again.

The three players just mentioned were 5 for 8 last night with 1 HR, 5 RBI, and 3 runs scored. If New York can continue to get these guys to produce, they could have an exciting 2nd half of the season.

MLB Pick: New York -133 at 5 Dimes

Los Angeles Dodgers (50-39) vs. Colorado Rockies (36-51)
Rockies Are Ice Cold
With Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke out of the way and Dan Haren pitching for the Dodgers, now we can start looking at those betting totals at Coors Field because even though the Rockies have cooled off, losing 9 out of their last 10 games, Coors Field is a run producing machine when an ace doesn’t take the mound.

The betting total is a tad high at 11, but we’ve went this route before and have been very successful in doing so.

The Dodgers have been tearing the cover off of the baseball as their 9-0 win yesterday over Colorado indicates. Guys that you wouldn’t expect are contributing. Dee Gordon is almost up to .300, Scott Van Slyke is starting to see the ball well, and Adrian Gonzalez is starting to break out of his slump.

Even though he didn’t play yesterday, I would imagine that Troy Tulowitzki would be in the Rockies lineup today and Tulo feasts off of pitching at Coors. He still has a .500 on-base percentage on his home field and with Dan Haren (8-4 ,3.57) taking the mound, I could see this score being high. Despite having a spectacular season, odds makers don’t respect Haren where the betting total is concerned and neither do I.

MLB Pick: Colorado/Los Angeles Over 11 at 5 Dimes
