The Red Sox take on the Los Angeles Angels and have been made a solid home favorite. Is there any value on backing Los Angeles as MLB Picks to pull off the upset?

The MLB Odds have made the Los Angeles Angels a +152 underdog like at Pinnacle Sports. For my MLB Pick today I'm going to back the Angels getting some solid value on the road. Starting pitcher Hector Santiago is much better than his current numbers indicate and I expect for him to pitch well enough to give Los Angeles a chance at the win.

Los Angeles Angels
Hector Santiago takes the mound today for Los Angeles and comes in with a 5.27 ERA and 1.34 whip with Los Angeles hitting .262 as a team which ranks 11th in the major leagues. His current numbers are really poor but Santiago has the ability to keep even the best hitting teams down in the run totals. He has just been really hot and cold this season either shutting teams down or giving up runs in bunches.

In his last start he gave up six earned runs in six innings against Oakland, but his two starts prior to that he allowed just one earned run in each game off of just five total hits in just over 12 innings. His overall numbers against Boston are good with a 3.29 ERA in five games over the last few seasons allowing 10 earned runs over 25 innings, but more importantly just one home run in that span.

At the plate Los Angeles hovers around the middle of the league statistically but they have been excellent at not striking out ranking first in the major leagues in that category. Expect for them to have a lot of quality at-bats against a Boston starter that has really struggled at times this season.

Boston Red Sox
Clay Buchholz takes the mound for the Red Sox and comes in with a 5.90 ERA and 1.47 whip with Boston ranking as one of the best offensive teams in baseball. His struggles have been well documented and his starts have been sporadic as he is also seen some time coming out of the bullpen.

In his last two starts he has given up seven earned runs off of 11 hits in 10 innings getting hurt by the long ball as well allowing three home runs in that stretch. At the plate Boston has been outstanding ranking first in the major leagues in runs per game, batting average, total bases, and OPS. Their offensive statistics makes it difficult to go against them but their numbers actually drop just a bit against left-handers and they are facing an underrated one today in Santiago.

Overall this is about value and this is a good number to grab a Los Angeles team who has the better starter on the mound and should be able to score against Buchholz who ranks among the bottom five in ERA out of the 61 starters this season who have pitched at least 60 innings.
