Our MLB handicapping professional examines Saturday’s early start between the Royals and Orioles. Join us in reading this insightful betting preview article which concludes with his money line pick.
Royals in Saturday Matinee Affair at Camden Yards
The Orioles and Royals meet on Saturday for their second of a three game series. The opening pitch at Camden Yards in Baltimore is slated for 1:05 PM ET. The Orioles took the opener on Friday with a decisive 14-8 win. Kansas City has gone 3-2 versus Baltimore in 2015, and those games have gone 3-1-1 over the total.
Yordano Ventura gets the start for Kansas City today. The Royals right-hander has gone 5-1 in his last six team starts while posting a shining 1.93 ERA. However, it must be noted, Ventura is coming off a shaky outing in his previous start, and has a lofty 5.03 ERA in ten starts on the road. His one start (8/27) versus Baltimore this year was impressive. He allowed no earned runs on just 2 hits and walked 4 during a 5-3 Kansas City win.
The Orioles will hope that Chris Tillman can bounce back today from some shaky starts of late. Tillman is 0-3 in his last three starts with a massive 11.19 ERA and 2.12 WHIP. In one start this year, and another during the 2014 ALCS, Tillman had a large 7.84 ERA against Kansas City.
Royals in recent Funk
Kansas City heads into today having gone 1-6 in their last seven games. During that time they’ve averaged just 3.3 runs per game and had a terrible .269 team on base percentage. Despite their recent funk, they still maintain a seemingly insurmountable 10.0 game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central standings, and each club has only twenty-two regular season games to play.
Orioles diminishing Playoff Hopes
Baltimore enters Saturday’s game 6.0 games behind Texas for the final American League wild card position. In addition, the Angels, Twins, Indians, and Rays are also ahead of them. They have won their last three in a row, but it may be too little too late in regards to their playoff chances. From 8/20 through 9/7, Baltimore went a miserable 3-15, and that ultimately may have sealed their postseason fate.
I give a decisive starting pitching edge to Yordano Ventura of Kansas City over Baltimore’s Chris Tillman. Kansas City has owned right-handed starting pitchers for the vast majority of the 2015 season, going an exceptional 57-32 (.640) in that role. I’m siding with the road team in this matchup for one of my MLB picks on Saturday. According to current MLB betting odds at Bookmaker, BetCris, and JustBet, Kansas City is a -140 money line favorite.
