San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres 6:40 PM ET
According to the MLB betting odds at Bookmaker, San Diego is a -135 money line favorite today, and the posted total is 7.0. The Padres have gone 12-7 versus the Giants during the last two seasons at Petco Park in San Diego.
The Giants will go with 39 year old right-hander Tim Hudson on the mound for today’s NL West road tilt. Hudson had a less than impressive year by his standards in 2014, going 9-13 during thirty-one starts with a 3.57 ERA. However, it must be noted, Hudson was 4-1 in six starts last April with an excellent 2.17 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and struck out thirty-one while walking only two. In five starts versus the Padres in 2014, Hudson posted a 3.69 ERA, and a 1.14 WHIP.
The Padres will send Ian Kennedy to the hill today for their 2015 home opener. Kennedy went 13-13 in thirty-three starts for San Diego in 2014, and posted a solid 3.63 ERA. Kennedy made three starts versus the Giants last year, going 2-1 with a stellar 2.70 ERA, and just shy of a 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Both of these teams are coming off a three game series versus NL West opponents. The Giants took two of three at Arizona, and the Padres dropped two of three at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. Both teams exhibited some impressive offensive numbers during their opening series of the 2015 MLB season. The Giants scored 16-runs and pounded out 37-hits in Arizona, and the Padres scored 14-runs and banged out 29-hits versus Dodgers pitching. For the second year in a row, the fences have been moved in ten feet at Petco Park in San Diego. I have a small lean is toward this game being fairly high scoring, and my MLB picks on Thursday will indicate that as well.

Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics 3:35 PM ET.
The MLB betting odds at 5Dimes indicate that Oakland is -140 money line favorite today, and the posted total is 7.5. This will be the finale of a four-game series and Oakland won two of the first three.
Nick Martinez will make his 2015 starting pitching debut for Texas this afternoon. Martinez went 5-11 in twenty-four starts for the Rangers in 2014 with a lofty 4.90 ERA. He went 2-1 versus Oakland last year in three starts while posting a very respectable 3.30 ERA.
Kendall Gravemen will be making his first career MLB appearance when he takes the mound for Oakland today. Gravemen is an intriguing story considering he pitched on four minor league teams in 2014, starting in Class A, and then finishing the year at AAA with the Buffalo Bisons of the International League. Through it all, the 24 year old went a combined 14-6 in twenty-seven starts with an excellent 1.83 ERA. This appears to be another potential low risk and high reward type of acquisition for the A’s General Manager Billy Beane.
The Rangers have gone a dismal 22-42 as a money line underdog of +100 to +150 during the last two seasons. Contrarily, the A’s are a stellar 18-5 since the start of the 2014 MLB campaign as a money line home favorite of -125 to -150. Both teams fall into those money line parameters on Thursday. I’m going to have a small lean toward the home team as one of my MLB picks on Thursday.
