At this time of year it comes down to either you have made the playoffs, you're trying to make the playoffs, or you're trying to play spoiler. That's the exact positions in today's matchup between Rockies and Giants so join us as we reveal our free MLB picks.

Colorado Rockies
Tyler Chatwood gets the start for Colorado and comes in with a 4.08 ERA and 1.41 whip but a stellar 1.88 ERA on the road with batters hitting just .195 against him. His home and road disparities are extremely different but that happens to pitchers who pitch for the Rockies. With his home ERA of 6.12 and batters hitting .303 against him compared with his stellar numbers when they travel along with a 7-1 record on the road, it  really speaks volumes how difficult it is to pitch in Denver.

Outside of his numbers on the road, there is a lot to like about him today keeping the Giants in check as he comes in allowing just six earned runs over 18 innings pitched against them holding a 3.00 ERA and 1.28 whip in three appearances. Of course, most of the damage done against him in those outings was in Colorado but in his one opportunity to pitch in San Francisco this season he held the Giants to just one earned run off a three hits in five innings, expect an outing maybe not as good but to keep the damage to a minimum.

San Francisco Giants
Jeff Samardzija takes the mound for San Francisco and comes in with a 3.83 ERA and 1.20 whip along with a 3.56 ERA at home this season. Against Colorado, he has pitched well allowing just six earned runs in over 22 innings of work versus the Rockies with a 2.38 ERA and 0.97 whip. Surprisingly in his last opportunity to face them in Colorado, he kept the damage to a minimum allowing just two earned runs off of four hits in seven innings.

Over his last 10 starts, Samardzija has been extremely good allowing a total of just 20 earned runs in over 60 innings of work will keeping the ball in the park for the most part and the hit totals to a minimum. This a big game for San Francisco and I expect him to come in and pitch extremely well to give the Giants an opportunity to take a step closer to the wildcard.

Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants
Odds makers have come out with a pretty low 7.5 total across the board with regular juice at most places. For my MLB pick, I'm going to back under the total in this spot of 7.5 like at Heritage sports, an A+ Rated Sportsbook. Looking at the recent numbers of Samardzija and the road numbers of Chatwood this will be an extremely fun pitching matchup to watch.
