Remember the Rockies’ four game winning streak followed by a three game weekend sweep of the Mets? Let's study the MLB odds and see how they fare vs. Cardinals now.

Colorado Rockies (Bettis) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (Garcia)
The Colorado Rockies travel to St Louis to meet the Cardinals for the first of a three-game early week set. The Rockies are one of the surprise teams of MLB, standing over .500 at 19-18, because of a recent 4 game winning streak. Colorado is one of a handful of teams who can match the Cardinals’ powerful offensive attack. The Rockies have the #3 batting OPS at .802, while St Louis has the #2 batting OPS at .815. Some of that, however, is biased by the higher scoring home park of the Rockies.

It is on the mound where the Cardinals will have their biggest advantage. From the all-important OPS perspective, St Louis starter Garcia has the #5 OPS at .493, compared to Colorado starter Bettis, who has the #58 OPS at .715. The discrepancy is carried over to the bullpen, where the Cardinals’ #14 relief OPS is .693, compared to the Rockies’ 24thranked .768 bullpen index.

More specifically, Rockies’ starter Bettis has lost his way of late. Though he is 3-2 with a 4.56 ERA, in his last two starts he is 0-1 with a 6.57 ERA. He gave up 4 runs in 6 1/3 innings in an 8-7 victory over Arizona in his most recent outing. Garcia has struggled in 5 career starts vs the Rockies, with a record of 0-3 and 8.76 ERA, but in his lone start against them last year Garcia turned the tables, yielding just 1 run and 2 hits in 5+ IP of a 3-2 victory last August. For the year, Garcia has been on point most every outing. As a result, he is 3-2 with a 2.58 ERA. In his most recent two starts, Garcia has worked 14 innings without allowing an earned run. In his most recent start, he recorded 8 K’s in 7 IP of a 5-2 victory over the LA Angels.

We are eager to play this one on the run line. Of the 20 St. Louis’ victories, 18 have come by 2 or more runs. With a huge edge in the pitching department and run line numbers to back it up, there is little question that the Cards get a dominant victory tonight.  I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the St. Louis Cardinals tonight.
