Still winless in a Cubs jersey, Yu Darvish is favored on the baseball odds Saturday night when Chicago continues their series in chilly Denver against the Rockies.

Free MLB Pick: Rockies +127
Best Line Offered: at Heritage

Plagued by foul weather the first few weeks of the 2018 MLB season, the Chicago Cubs might have to deal with more of it Saturday when they are scheduled to continue their series in Denver against the Colorado Rockies.

Tonight’s 8:10 PM (ET) first pitch at Coors Field pits a pair of teams that are just above .500 in the standings, and a pair of hurlers that are each looking for their first wins of the campaign. Yu Darvish (0-1, 6.00) is up next in the Chicago rotation opposite Tyler Anderson (0-0, 4.74) of Colorado, and Bookmaker is offering the Cubs on a -135 money line. A 10-run total is the scoreboard mark baseball bettors are faced with, many shops favoring the ‘over.’

Cubs Explode For 16 Runs In Friday’s Series Opener

With chilly temps in the low-40s on Friday, the top of Chicago’s lineup fueled a 16-5 rout with a big 7-run sixth doing most of the damage to send the final well past what had been a closing 9½ total. The previous six meetings in Denver had split the totals and the seven clashes a year ago ran 2-5 O/U as the Rockies won 5-of-7.

While Darvish is winless in three starts, the Cubs have won two of them, each those victories coming on the road as favorites on the MLB odds. The righthander is coming off a rather ugly performance eight days ago in his home debut, failing to make it through the fifth in a loss to Atlanta having surrendered nine hits and four runs. He has faced the Rockies just once before, losing that assignment, and Saturday will be his first career start in Denver. Anderson was beat up in Arizona to begin the season, but has since rebounded with just three runs allowed in 16.2 innings. He faced the Cubs once during his 2016 rookie campaign, taking a no-decision after giving up five runs in seven frames.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

The hulking Jordan Baker should be under the mask tonight calling balls and strikes, his fourth plate assignment of 2018 with two of the previous three finishing ‘over’ the totals. The Oklahoma native has worked the dish at Coors four times, three of those contests skipping past the scoreboard hurdle.

Snow is falling in and around Denver on Saturday morning, and while it is expected to taper off by afternoon, what’s left behind for this evening are cold and damp temps in the low-to-mid 40s for the game. Even with Cubs hitters clicking, I can’t trust Darvish and will instead ride the home ‘dogs for my free baseball pick.
