MLB Odds have the Houston a solid home favorite in this game but there could be some value in backing Seattle. Can the Mariners find a way to take over second-place in the AL West?

MLB odds have made Seattle a +146 underdog like at Pinnacle Sports. For my MLB pick, I'm going to back the Mariners in this spot because they are a good team with an underrated pitcher on the mound. This game could go either way in my opinion which puts the value squarely on Seattle.

Seattle Mariners
Wade LeBlanc gets the start for Seattle and comes in with a 1.50 ERA and 0.67 WHIP in just two appearances this year with the Mariners hitting .263 as a team which ranks 12th in the major leagues. LeBlanc is just getting back in the majors after pitching in Japan for a year and recently being called up from AAA. Although he only has two appearances they were pretty impressive against two of the best hitting teams in baseball holding both the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles to three hits apiece over six innings. Both of those games were in Seattle so this will be his first true road test in the majors this season, but after pitching in Japan for a year traveling probably won't bother him that much. As well, in AAA this season he was lights out with a 1.71 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 90 innings while allowing just three home runs in that stretch. I expect for him to give Seattle every chance to win this game. At the plate, the Mariners are much better than last year ranking in the top part of the league in most categories. Currently, they average just under five runs per game which rank them sixth in the major leagues along with ranking 10th in hits per game and seventh in OPS. This team can hit and I expect them to be able to score today.

Houston Astros
Mike Fiers takes the mound for Houston and comes in with a 4.12 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with the Astros hitting .244 as a team which ranks 23rd in the major leagues. Fiers is coming off a really good start against the White Sox allowing just four hits over six innings and in his last several starts he has been really good especially at home allowing just four earned runs in his last five home starts. However, he is not immune to getting knocked around at times like allowing four earned and seven earned runs versus the Rangers and the Angels respectively off of 16 hits in just nine innings. Offensively Houston has been a step down from where they were last year ranking in the middle of the league in most categories like 14th in OPS, 15th in runs per game, and 17th in total bases. Both teams have a legitimate shot to win the West so expect this series to be tightly contested. Today though it is all about the plus money value and I believe Seattle has a good chance to win this game.
