From three games above .500 just after the break to a record 21-game win streak and best mark in the AL, the Indians are big chalk on the MLB odds tonight at home vs. the Royals.

It’s not often we get to see a win streak as long as the one the Cleveland Indians have going these days. In fact, we’ve never seen one like this as far as American League teams go, and we’ll get to see if they can stretch it to 22 on Thursday in the series opener vs. the Kansas City Royals.

Will Cleveland ever lose again? Yes, that’s a given, but it won’t be tonight if current wagering options on the Indians are any indication. BetOnline has them priced -218 on the money line for the 7:10 PM (ET) start that finds Josh Tomlin (9-9, 5.13) chucking for the home team against KC rookie Jake Junis (7-2, 4.34). Playing the scoreboard means a decision on a 9 run total.

Both Teams 5-1 Last 6 Starts By Tonight’s Starters

After getting knocked around in June and being sent back to the minors, Junis has looked fine since being recalled and rejoining the Royals rotation in August. Kansas City is 5-1 in his last six starts, the 24 year old posting a 2.47 ERA in those appearances. The one sloppy showing Junis had after coming back from the farm was a relief outing against these Indians in mid-August when he surrendered four runs in 2.1 frames. That’s his only experience against Cleveland.

Tomlin might be the worst pitcher the Royals will face in this set with Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco and Corey Kluber to follow. Still, he has won his two starts since coming off the DL, allowing 3 ER in 10.2 IP, and the Indians are 5-1 behind their righthander dating to just before the all-star break. The Texas native has been solid against KC this season, Cleveland winning two of his three outings while Tomlin posted a 1.93 ERA, one of the wins a complete game 6-hitter at home as -125 chalk on the MLB odds in late-June.

Rivalry Trends, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

The Indians enter the final series of the season between the two with a 9-6 edge, six of their victories coming in the form of shutouts. In fact, the tribe pulled off a shutout sweep when these two met in Cleveland in late-August when their historic win streak was just getting underway. The six contests played at the Progressive Field in 2017 have split the totals after running 3-6-1 O/U/P a year ago.

There could be a stray shower or two roaming through the Cleveland area today, but nothing that will keep the game from being played, and nothing else in the forecast to affect play tonight. I’ve never considered myself smart enough to play against streaks less impressive than what the Tribe has going right now, and since they’ve covered the run line 18 times during the stretch, that’s where I’m making my free baseball pick this evening.
