The Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland A’s meet in Game 2 of this 4-game weekend set. Read on to learn how to earn some cash by betting on this exciting game.

This was originally scheduled for my Dog of the Day, but an early line move on Tampa Bay has put this game into the “PICK EM” range. Though a bit of the value has been eroded from the fact that Oakland was a 1.25 favorite on the opening line, it is clear in my mind that the Rays are still a value selection.

In yesterday’s winning analysis of the Rays’ 7-3 victory, I pointed out that Tampa Bay was obeying my BUY sign. Their OPS numbers, in both batting and pitching combined, were far superior to their record that had plummeted to sub .400 at the completion of their recent 3-23 slide. Since that time, however, the Rays have responded by going 4-1, including scoring 28 combined runs the last 3 nights in first a pair of victories at Colorado, then last night’s win in Oakland. With a huge batting advantage and a nice edge in the starting pitching, we are very comfortable backing Tampa Bay again tonight.

Though Oakland has the superior record at 42-54, there is little hope for any post-season play. A 6-1 surge in late June was a bit of a false alarm. For, that up-tick has been sandwiched by negative runs of 3-12 and now, 7-11. Turning to tonight’s starter, Manaea, does not figure to be the answer. For the season, Manaea is 3-5 with a 5.13 ERA. He does come off a promising relief appearance in which he allowed Toronto just 2 runs in 5 IP and did not give up a walk in consecutive appearances.

I would far prefer backing the Rays whose .764 road batting OPS is far superior to the .682 home batting OPS of Oakland. Clearly, they are in outstanding hitting form! Tonight’s starter, Odorizzi, will be auditioning as a trade candidate in the quickly approaching August 1st trading date. He comes off an excellent return to form start in a 5-2 victory vs. Baltimore, in which he worked 6IP allowing just 2 runs with a 7/1 K/BB.

Run line players should note that should Tampa Bay become the favorite in this game, they may wish to place part (or all) of their wager on the run line, knowing that 17 of 19 Tampa Bay road wins have come by 2 or more runs. I invite you to put the MLB betting odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the Tampa Bay
