The Dodgers came out of a weekend series against the Padres as a great team, but no longer on the pace for legendary. The Reds, meanwhile, look to snap out of a tailspin. Let’s check out the MLB odds for this game and the best bet to place at the top online sportsbooks.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Monday, April 26, 2021 – 10:10 PM EDT at Dodger Stadium
The Dodgers came out of a four-game weekend series with the Padres as merely a great team. While most teams would be happy with that outcome, Los Angeles entered the weekend looking to put away their biggest rival in the National League before April was over. Instead, the Padres took the first two of a hard-fought series and mounted an epic ninth inning comeback on Sunday. By the time San Diego left town, the Dodgers’ projected wins for the year had plummeted from 126 to merely 115.
The Cincinnati Reds, who opened the season in first place in the wide open National League Central, are looking to snap out of a tailspin. A weekend sweep at the hands of Central rival St. Louis put Cincy in last place in the division and riding a current seven-game losing streak. Now the Reds look to snap the skid with a West Coast road trip that starts with baseball’s best team.
Looking to Get the Moose Back
Not all that long ago, the Reds were 9-5, leading the Central and pushing the Dodgers for the best run differential in baseball. Cincinnati hasn’t won since, although their plus 11 differential is still third best in the National League. Part of the reason for the positive run differential is the fact that every loss in the seven-game streak has been a close game. The Reds have not lost by more than three runs on their current skid and have two extra-inning losses and two other one-run losses over that span.
The Reds head to Los Angeles looking to avoid their first eight-game losing streak in more than two years. Tempers are starting to get short in the Cincinnati dugout—manager David Bell was ejected in Sunday’s loss. Bell was upset after rookie Jonathan India was hit in the helmet by the Cardinals. India stayed in immediately after getting plunked but was pulled from the game after the inning.

“We'll keep a close eye on him, but I really believe he's fine,” Bell said.
The Reds are already without Mike Moustakas, who is suffering from a non-COVID viral infection. He hit in nine of 12 games and had a .957 OPS when he got sick. The Reds are 2-8 since. He’s expected back at some point in the Dodgers series, but maybe not by the first game.
The Reds send Tyler Mahle to the mound to open the series in Los Angeles. He’s 1-1 with a 1.74 ERA and has struck out 20 of the 43 lefthanded hitters he’s faced this year, allowing just three hits.
The Dodgers are still comfortably in front in the National League West despite getting a fight from the Padres over the weekend.
Los Angeles has succeeded despite not having a full contingent of players this season. The Dodgers had 10 players on the injured list all of last season. They’ve already matched that this year, and the cumulative 154 games missed is already more than halfway to the 248 injured players missed last season.
The Dodgers got Chris Taylor back over the weekend, after he missed three games due to back stiffness. They also hope to get Gavin Lux off the injured list as soon as Monday to start the Reds series. Pitcher Dennis Santana is also expected to be activated. He was dealing with side effects from his second COVID vaccine shot.
The Dodgers will start Julio Urias, who hasn’t lost a game since August 2019. He’s 3-0 this year with a 2.81 ERA. He struck out 11 in seven innings last time out.
The Reds will win eventually, and Monday seems as good a time as any, with Mahle, who has been their ace this season, getting the start. Unfortunately, the Dodgers are starting to get healthy and should be able to take advantage of a struggling team after playing seven of the last 10 against the Padres.
