The Rangers go for the series victory Sunday afternoon against the slumping Red Sox. Do we go with the hot team for our free MLB pick on the side? Or can Boston salvage a split?

Sox-Rangers Sunday Betting Odds
In the early betting Texas and Wandy Rodriguez were favored by around -120 over Boston and Joe Kelly, with an OVER/UNDER of 9.5 runs in MLB odds. The Rangers could also be bet getting around +170 giving the run and a half on the run line.

Check out Ron Patrick's Pick for Royals vs. Cubs, too.

The Situation
Texas took a 2-1 lead in this four-game series with an 8-0 victory Saturday. After losing this series opener Thursday 5-1 the Rangers rapped out 12 hits in a 7-4 victory Friday, and 13 hits Saturday

So Texas has won nine of its last 11 games to reach the .500 mark at 25-25, while Boston has lost eight of its last 11 to drop six games below .500 at 22-28.

The Rangers have also now taken four of six games from the Sox this season, with five of those games playing UNDER.

Sunday's Starters
Rodriguez (2-2, 3.60) is three-for-seven on quality starts this season. Ten days ago he held these Red Sox to one run through 6 2/3 innings of a 3-1 Texas win, but last time out he gave up three runs through 5 1/3 innings, with five walks and a pair of gopher balls, against Cleveland. On the season Wandy has allowed fewer hits, 31, than innings pitched, 40, but the 18 walks are a bit much.

Nonetheless, Texas has won four of Rodriguez' last five starts, and on the season the totals have skewed UNDER by a 6-1 margin in games he's started.

Kelly (1-4, 6.24) is having a rough go of it early this season, and may be pitching himself out of a spot in the Sox rotation. He recently went four straight starts of allowing at least five runs, then posted consecutive quality outings, including one against these Rangers. But last time out he got bombed by Minnesota for seven run in less than two innings of a 7-2 Boston loss.

On the season Kelly has allowed 71 base-runners – 51 hits and 20 walks – through 49 innings. The Sox have lost four of his last five starts.

However, Kelly held Texas to two runs through seven innings 11 days ago, although Boston lost that game 2-1.

Sunday Free Picks
A final note before sharing our MLB picks, Kelly has been terrible this season, and the Boston lineup ranks as one of the worst in the Majors this year against left-handed pitching. We like Texas to take this series finale, in a game that should sneak UNDER its high total.
