The Boston Red Sox are 11-2 their L13 Opening Days, and on Monday the Pirates come to Fenway Park to begin the 2017 MLB season with ace Gerrit Cole going for Pittsburgh against Boston’s Rick Porcello.

Odds Overview

Pittsburgh Pirates at Boston Red Sox (NESN, ROOT-Pittsburgh, MLB Extra Innings 3, DTV 628, DTV 659, 2:05 p.m. ET): The Red Sox and RHP Rick Porcello welcome RHP Gerrit Cole and the Pirates to historic Fenway Park in Boston on Monday afternoon for Opening Day and Game 1 of a 3-game Interleague series. Offshore sportsbooks have Boston solid -159 favorites (BetOnline) with a Total of 9 (Over +105, Heritage) with the Red Sox -1½ +125 on the Run Line with the Pirates +1½ -145 (BookMaker).

On Tuesday (7:10 p.m. ET), the BoSox send new LHP Chris Sale to the bump with RHP Jameson Taillon slated to go for Pittsburgh, while in the series finale Wednesday (1:35 p.m. ET), Boston is scheduled to send LHP Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound against Pittsburgh RHP Chad Kuhl.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates (75/1 to win World Series, 5Dimes) had an impressive Grapefruit League, going 19-12 after losing to the Blue Jays Saturday, but have the unfortunate reality of playing in the same division (NL Central) as the world champion Cubs and the Cardinals. Pittsburgh (25/1 to win NL, Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook) and Manager Clint Hurdle may have a Starting Lineup of: LF Adam Frazier, 2B Josh Harrison, 1B Josh Bell, RF Andrew McCutchen, CF Starling Marte, DH Gregory Polanco, 3B David Freese, C Francisco Cervelli and SS Jordy Mercer.

The Trends show the Pirates 4-0 their L4 Interleague games and 6-1 L7 vs. AL East, but the Bucs are 0-5 Cole’s L5 Grass starts, 0-5 L5 Mondays, 1-8 L9 vs. RHP starters and 26-54 L80 Interleague vs. RHP starters. Pittsburgh 'Overs' are 7-0 L7 Cole starts and 18-7-1 L26 IL games.

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox (6/1 to win World Series, Sportsbetting.ag) and Manager John Farrell may put out a starting lineup of: 2B Dustin Pedroia, OF Andrew Benintendi, OF Mookie Betts, SS Xander Bogaerts, DH Hanley Ramírez, OF Jackie Bradley, 3B Pablo Sandoval, 1B Mitch Moreland and C Sandy Leon.

Boston is 21-7 L28 Game 1s and an impressive 11-2 L13 Opening Days, despite L2-3 and there have been 16, 15, 14, 4, 8, 13 and 16 Runs scored in the L6 Boston openers. The Red Sox (3/1 to win AL, SuperBook) are 5-0 L5 Porcello starts, 74-26 L100 IL vs. RHP starters but 0-5 L5 Grass. The 'Under' is 18-7-1 L26 Boston vs. NL Central and 13-3-1 L17 dating back to last season.

Boston Weather Forecast, Series Trends

TWC forecast for Boston Monday calls for Partly Cloudy skies, a Low of 39° with NNW Winds of 10-15 mph, so chilly Beantown conditions and no doubt long sleeves, gloves and coffee in the dugout. Even though the Bucs are 5-1 L6 meetings and the 'Under' is 6-2 in the L8, the feeling here is that the combination of Opening Day, Site and Boston’s big bats may be too much for Cole and the Bucs. The Red Sox and the 'Over' are the MLB Picks for this Opening Day matinee.

Predicted Final Score: Red Sox 8, Pirates 4Free MLB Picks: Red Sox -156 & 'Over' 9Best Line Offered: Heritage
