With 43 wins in their last 50 games, the Los Angeles Dodgers are easy favorites once again on the MLB odds for Sunday’s finale at the New York Mets.

It’s a hot streak the likes that haven’t been seen in more than 100 years, and the Los Angeles Dodgers hope to keep it going Sunday by finishing a sweep of the New York Mets. ESPN’s cameras begin transmitting pictures at 8 PM (ET) as Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-6, 3.83) and Steven Matz (2-4, 5.50) oppose each other on the mound, LA favored in the upper -160s on the MLB odds with 9½ for the total.

Yu Darvish got his Dodger career off to a stellar start with seven shutout innings Friday in LA’s 6-0 victory as a small favorite. Both lineups went home-run happy Saturday, the Mets hitting three in the first inning before the Dodgers banged five out to rally for a 7-4 win in a game Bookmaker closed Los Angeles on a -221 money line. The Dodgers are 6-0 against the Mets this season and have won the last eight meetings.

Mound Duel A Rematch From June Tilt In LA
Ryu has been a winning wager going back about three weeks before he hit the DL with a bruised foot. The Dodgers have won five of his last six starts, including both games since he came back while the lefty worked 12 innings with only two runs scoring. One of the games in that span was against the Mets in Los Angeles, Ryu not figuring into the 6-3 LA triumph with five frames and two runs charged to his ledger. This is his third appearance at Citi Field, LA winning the previous two (13 IP, 3 ER).

Matz’s poor July continued into August, the Mets falling 5-4 to the Rockies at home this past Tuesday with 5 IP and 3 ER on his scorecard. That followed a 9.30 ERA in July when New York dropped four of his five assignments. He opposed Ryu in that June contest at Chavez Ravine, working six and surrendering three runs though he didn’t factor in the decision.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick
Now in his 19th season at the MLB level, Tim Timmons is tasked with calling balls and strikes in the series finale. The Ohio native had an ‘over’ tendency earlier in 2017, but five of his last six plate assignments never made it to the totals to bring his record to 11-10 O/U. Timmons does sport a tendency to go ‘over’ the lower marks (8-2 O/U up to 8½) and stay ‘under’ scoreboard barriers 9 and above (3-8 O/U).

Cloudy skies, temps in the mid-to-upper 70s and a light SW breeze blowing out to center is the Flushing forecast this evening. I don’t see any reason to run contrarian to the hottest team going since 1912 with my free baseball pick, and will go the run line route with this one.

My MLB pick: Dodgers -1½ (+105) at 5Dimes
Season: 55-58-3 (-1.20)
