Do you want to get your Wednesday sports wagering off to a profitable start? All you need to do is read our betting preview for this afternoon’s game between the Rays and Yankees in the Bronx.

Tampa Bay Rays At New York Yankees

The Rays and Yankees will play their second of a 3-game set on Wednesday afternoon. The opening pitch at Yankees Stadium is slated for 1:05 PM ET. This will already be the fifth meeting of the season between these AL East rivals. They’ve split the first 4 games, with2 of those 'over' the total and 2 'under.' Current MLB betting odds show the Yankees ranging from -105 to -115 on the moneyline, and Tampa Bay being +100 to -105. There’s a posted total of 8.5 across the board.

Starting Pitchers

There will be a pair of 24-year-old southpaw starting pitchers facing each other. Tampa Bay will go with 2011 first-round draft choice Blake Snell. The Yankees turn to their 2014 fourth-round pick Jordan Montgomery. Snell will be making his 21st career MLB start. Conversely, today will mark Montgomery’s first MLB regular-season appearance.

Snell made 4 starts vs. the Yankees in 2016 and collected an impressive 3.00 ERA in those outings. Although he did walk 10 in 18.0 innings pitched. This will be Snell’s 2nd start of the season, and his 2017 debut was a less than inspiring one. Against Toronto, he allowed 5 earned runs on 4 hits while walking 4 in 6 2/3 innings during a 5-2 Rays loss.

If Montgomery’s minor-league resume is any indication, the young lefty has an extremely bright future. Montgomery was a combined 14-5 in 2016 during 25 starts. He compiled a brilliant 2.13 ERA in those outings, which were split between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. It’s worth noting that Montgomery surrendered only 5 home runs in 139 1/3 innings between those 2 stops. He’s also coming off a very impressive spring training. Montgomery appeared in 6 Grapefruit League games and posted a 3.00 ERA. One of those outings came against Tampa Bay on March 23 and Montgomery fanned 8 Rays hitters.

Strong Bullpens

Despite the Rays' bullpen struggling in the opening game of this series, they still possess a very good 2.88 ERA as a staff. The Yankees relievers have been superb thus far, evidenced by their cumulative 1.13 ERA and 0.67 WHIP. The Rays and Yankees relievers have combined to allow just 3 home runs during 46 2/3 innings of work.
