Tampa Bay Rays (Archer) vs. Cleveland Indians (Bauer)
The Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians conclude their 3-game early week set with this 7:10 ETstart. The pitching matchup finds Archer of the Rays vs. Bauer of the Indians. Each of these teams and starting pitchers are headed opposite directions. We eagerly take advantage of this value price with Cleveland, based on the false reputation of the Rays’ Archer.

In early June, I projected a surge for Tampa Bay based on their upper-half OPS numbers in batting and relief. Tampa Bay responded with a 9-2 surge. But since that time, the hitting has fallen on hard times with a 0-6 slide in which Tampa Bay has produced a total of only 14 runs. They are now at 31-38, trailing their 4 divisional opponents in the AL East. With their numbers dropping, I am not sure they have another surge in them!

Betting Preview
The Cleveland Indians are clearly at the opposite end of the spectrum. A strong starting rotation was expected to lift Cleveland into playoff contention. A recent 5-game winning streak (all at home) has lifted the Indians to 40-30 with a 2-game lead over the Royals in the AL Central.  That 5-game home winning streak means Cleveland has n ow won all 10 home starts in the month of June. Along with that dichotomous form, I point out our advantages in the starters for tonight’s action.

Quite simply, Chris Archer is nowhere near meeting expectations after his strong recent campaigns. This year is 4-9 with a 4.60 ERA and .771 OPS. But that OPS number is even worse, at .934, when pitching on the road. Recently, Archer is 1-5 with a 4.91 ERA. He comes off an outing in which he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 6 IP of a 5-1 loss to San Fran. With his poor numbers on the road, he is not to be trusted.

Cleveland starter, Bauer, has hit a rich vein of current form. In 5 recent starts, spanning 35 2/3 IP, Bauer has allowed just 10 earned runs with 32 Ks. For the year, Bauer is a superb 4-2 with a 3.46 ERA and .666 OPS.
