The Texas Rangers hope to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Chicago White Sox this afternoon after dropping the first two of this three-game set. Let’s review the MLB odds and cash a ticket.

2016 MLB Record: (6-7, -1.21 units)

Texas Rangers (10-8, +3.6 units)
The Rangers were blanked 5-0 in the first game of the series and yesterday were edged 4-3 in extra innings. It was an 11th inning single by Chicago’s struggling slugger Bobby Abreu that did the damage and handed Texas their second consecutive defeat after winning four straight coming into this series. Texas is now ranked 9th in scoring, 12th in batting average and 19th in slugging percentage.

The rangers have now lost their last four games in the South Side of Chicago and will hand the ball to Derek Holland to stop their Windy City slide. Holland takes a 2-0 record into this one with an ERA of 2.70 and a WHIP of 1.08. Though his numbers are solid thus far on the young season his history with the White Sox bodes ominous for Texas.

Holland is 0-1 when starting against the White Sox with an ERA of 8.10 and a WHIP of 1.575. His team's record is 0-3 (-4.2 units) in these starts. Holland has been a money burner if you have backed him in your MLB picks when he opposes the White Sox and his record when playing at U.S. Cellular Field is 0-1 with a frightening 12.27 ERA and a 2.727 WHIP in two appearances, one start, over just 3.2 innings of work.

Chicago White Sox (12-6, +5.9 units)
The White Sox have won four of their last five and sit atop the AL Central, just one half game in front of the Kansas City Royals. Chicago will be looking for a series sweep over the Rangers and are coming into the final game of the series with an offense that is surprisingly anemic for a team with a 12-6 mark and in first place in their division. Chicago is in the bottom third of all the major offensive categories including having plated just 57 runs on the season which ties them for 26th in the big leagues.

Veteran Mat Latos will make the start for the White Sox who is working for relatively short money on a one-year deal with Chicago. Latos has had a resurgence this season and has been nothing short of sensation with a 3-0 mark and a micro 0.49 ERA complemented by a 0.60 WHIP over 18.1 innings. Six hits is all Latos has allowed this year and will faced the Rangers for just the second time in his career. His only appearance against Texas resulted in a  3-2 loss back in 2013.

Betting Analysis
As we review the MLB odds in this one it is not surprising that the White Sox are installed as the home chalk here. Though both pitchers are doing well by their clubs in the early going it is in fact Mat Latos who has been stellar and has seemingly regained his form. Though the Rangers have the more potent offense they have been struggling recently. In addition, here are a few other stats to consider:

*Rangers are 2-6 in their last eight versus a team with a winning record

*Rangers are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games

*Rangers are 3-7 in Holland’s last 10 road starts

*White Sox are 8-2 in their last nine games on grass

*White Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 home games versus a left-handed starter

Let’s not overthink this one. Go with the white hot pitcher in Mat Latos and the home chalk gunning for a series sweep.
